I have never once said that Maverick is better than anyone else. I did say that they had SOME of the best looking tarp jobs out there...lol
I have nothing but respect for anyone in this industry. It is hard and dangerous work whatever you pull.
I am feeling muscles that I had forgotten that I had:biggrin_25510:. At least I will not have to worry about that gym membership.
I do not think they have the covered wagon division but I could be wrong.
They still have the specialized group. Maybe they do some of that.

Well I have to do some studying before class. We have a big test tomorrow that you get too shots at or you are sent home.

    Later!

    MtDewMan Thanks this.

Saw the 'lol', so figure you do know I was teasing.

Roger that on the muscle thing! And I had been going to the gym pretty regularly for better than a year, right up till I went out to NLR.

The covered wagons were only a very small percentage of their fleet, and were confined to the S. Michigan across to PA area. I think it ran as far south as the OH-KY line.

And you don't want specialized, trust me.

Hubby finally made it to Little Rock! He's about a week behind you Jim the Hut. I'm following you and keeping hubby up to date on what's to come. I hope he does as well as you have so far. He likes that the guys there are not full of it and they keep him informed of their expectations. Jim F , you were right about the physical stuff- he said it wasn't too bad. Thanks for the posts guys, keep em coming.

The biggest thing they push here is safety! In fact they told us to put a picture of our family on the dash and look at them every time we do a securement and ask if you would want your family riding beside your load!
#1 is safety for the public, #2 safety for the driver, #3 safety for our load!
No life is worth getting anyone hurt or killed!

    JimTheHut and Gladhesgone,

are you (and your man) in regular flatbed or specialized? Should I do specialized glass or not?

I am looking at them, Roehl and TMC hoping to start mid March after I graduate from CDL school. I hear not so good things about the glass but I am intrigued by it.

I like the structured training though.

PrincePhil, have you talked to mav & TMC? Don't know where your located, so you might want to check if they are hiring in your area, and if they take grads. They used to, but I think TMC (and paoosibly Mav) want 6 months exp. Don't know about Roehl.

    Good luck.

    Greetings All!
I aced my map reading test on Friday and then loaded all of my gear on my trainers truck. Got up a 0430 and headed to Hot Springs Arkansas to pick up our first load.
There were about 8 other mav trucks there and some other carriers.
It was a huge coil over 6 feet tall and we loaded it shotgun.
It was so large we had to use the 8 foot lumber tarps to cover it.
There were four tucks in the dock at one time so we all helped each other get the tarps on.
We then headed to Louisville ky after we had them all tarped and ready to go.
It is quite the work out.
I spent my first night in the truck and kept hitting my head on the ceiling as I was in the top bunk. I hope to get used to it soon.
We deliverd our coil this morning and then went to Gent Ky to pick up three coils loaded eye to the side. My trainer let me tell them exactly where I wanted them and if I wanted them eyes to the side or shotgun. I chose eyes to the side.
I had to dircet the crane as they were lowerd down on the truck.
I did not get them perfect but they were good enough.
We got them chained and tarped and they looked pretty good.
We are not sitting in Loves in Sparta Ky and will be heading to Allenton Pa tomorrow.
I did get to drive the truck for about an hour before we picked up our second load.
I will get to drive tomorrow after we make it out of cincinnati. He wants to take it down through the cut in the hill to cincinnati.
It is amazing to watch that trailer go down when they set the coils on it.

This flat bed work is the most physical thing I had done in many years! We did not eat lunch today but had a good dinner of sauer Kraut and sausage!

We will leave tomorrow about 0600 and try to beat the traffic in Cincinnati before rush hour.

I got new air card today so I will be able to get on here every night. My phone was not working as the air card very well!

    That is it for now!

KCJ, Ops85, Cooper09 and 6 others Thank this.
