what isn't brought up much is what companies actually want in an employee. conventional belief is they want the best employee they can get. NOT TRUE! what they want is someone who is good, but not too good. not saying that you fit into that category, but it's possible. they want someone who can do the job, but NOT someone who is overly smart or who has been around the block too many times. as far as maverick's being "selective," they might be. but I've seen some of their drivers, and I would expect that my definition of selective is probably different than other peoples'.

why do you think these companies which do these ridiculous fleece options push them exclusively onto students, and never onto a grizzled old O/O? a student simply doesn't know any better than to fall for the scam, but an experienced O/O would stand up in orientation and tell them how full of it they are.

check out michael moore's youtube video where he investigates a police department who refuses to hire someone to be a cop if they score too high on the test. welcome to mediocrity, my fellow Americans.

What scams are you talking about? They told us in orientaion that you should not even think about a lease until you have been in the industry at least two years. You have to be here a couple of years to be eligible to be a trainer. So all they are offering is a chance to drive for them. Not much of a scam if you ask me. I am going to get .31 to start vs .26 from some of the other companies.. Again, where is the scam?
Have you ever driven for Maverick? Have you ever even applied at Maverick? What is your point regarding Maverick?

He does not know what he is talking about. They want everyone that they bring into orientation to make it. They are not wanting to waste anybodies time. I was there 3 weeks ago. I know what I am talking about. You will be fine as long as you can do the physical stuff ect.
    Don't let him scare you!:biggrin_25521:

I don't normally advertise this simply because it usually causes more problems than it solves...but here goes. (school was a nightmare for me, from start to finish)

They hired me twice, and they called me the 2nd time...I wasn't even looking for a job.

My IQ is over 160 (which puts me in the top .002% category or thereabouts), and I've been around the block, down the street, and over the mountains...more than once. But thats not the reason they hired me...either time.

What Maverick wants is somebody that is willing, able, motivated, and disciplined...if you fit that description, they'll hire you.

Are all their drivers like that? Nope.

Why? Because they are hard to find.

please reread my post. the first paragraph was about companies in general, only the last sentence made any reference to maverick (and the misconception that their drivers are any different than the ones at any other monster mega company.) the second paragraph was dealing with trucking companies which do fleece option scams.

And when did Maverick become a monster mega company...we are below 1,000 drivers, the last seniority sheet I saw (last week) said 976 I think.

Now I know thats not a small company, but its not what I'd call "mega" either (Schneider, Swift, etc...even TMC has over twice as many trucks as maverick)

I stand corrected then. I just get tired of people coming on these posts and acting like they know everything and in actuality, they no very little.

Maverick had nothing better to do then to send you a paid bus ticket and bring you all the way to Little Rock, put you up for the night and then give you a paid bus ticket all the way home, with a day's pay check in your pocket.... because they don't like your accent LOL. Sorry you didn't get the job. With Maverick it is the "Maverick way or the highway" (in a bus). Some people don't understand why Maverick dose some of the things they do, but there is always a reason for it. I think they are a danm good company to work for. The only reason they started doing trainee students again is because they can't find enough seasoned drivers. To many drivers have tickets and accidents. And yes there are only about 2% that apply will be called in for orientation. At least you got called in. I do wish you luck in your job search.
