So I'm currently 6 months in with a bottom feeder company and can't wait to get out. I am checking out all my options and a couple people recommended Maverick. I really haven't heard any complaints and I'm wondering if their website tells the truth or lies like most recruiters.

I'm interested in the flatbed division though reefer caught my eye too. Any advice? Does flatbed really get you home every week? I have a new 10yo daughter (gf's daughter adopted me as her new daddy a year and a half ago replacing the alcoholic pos sperm donor she had) and she is beyond PO'd that I am away 4 weeks and home 4 days :biggrin_25516:.

Reefer is out a bit longer but runs more states which I kinda like. Which pays more? Can you switch between divisions after a few years to try something different?

My ultimate goal is to become an O/O. How is their lease purchase program? In short I'm looking for a company to build a career at, not just a place to work.

    Thanks in advance.

Also forgot to ask, do you run elogs or paper? Do all your trucks really have APU's? I have never had one and wouldn't know how to act if I did. Are they auto shift or manual?

Maverick is a great company. Ive been here since 2003 and have no plans to leave. Yes flats can get you home MOST weekends. Maverick dont advertise or promise every weekend. Depending where you live flats could be a good fit. Maverick expects your best so if you cant bring your A game here you wont make it out of orientation even. Yes we use EOBR'S as will ALL companies in the next year or two whether they like it or not. The eritings alteady on the wall in DC as it were. However we get paid better than a bottom feeder company also. All Cascadias have APUS. Once you get some time here then their lease is good to.

    From the website

"Maverick is set up to get our drivers home every weekend."

But yeah I know every weekend is a little unrealistic and don't expect it, but it beats 4 days a month. I live in PA so hopefully flatbed wouldn't be a problem.

I always bring my A game. I was in my last job 17 years eventually becoming a company owner, worked my way up from the bottom. I have dealt with customers, shippers, and vendors as well as getting in the trenches and working with the employees on a daily basis training them all myself. I am 6' 250lbs of mostly muscle and not afraid of hard work. I left it when I separated from my wife in search of a better life and followed my dream of driving truck.

I may not look it at first glance but I am very intelligent and personable, and I learn fast. I am well groomed but sadly the shaved head, goatee, piercings and tattoos can tend to throw an employer off but this is who I am and if an employer can't look past the exterior then it is their loss as I spent 17 years of marriage conforming myself to what someone else wanted me to be and I vowed never to let that happen again. I had a 16 year spotless mvr, currently fighting a BS speeding ticket in TX and will just have to see how the lawyer does with it. My criminal record is totally spotless though.

I am rambling now. Thanks for the reply. All I can do is give it a shot and hope for the best.

Make sure you tell your recruiter about the tats and piercings. They do have policies on those but I cant quote it to you as I have neither so never concerned myself with knowing it. I wouldnt want you to waste a trip if you and them ran into conflict over those. I think as long as its not like racist or offensive tats or at least the ones that are visible anyway that they arent too strict. As for piercings I think limit them to ear studs only due to many customers requiring no dangling jewelry and a face full of metal isnt Mavericks persona and they'll tell you as much if you ask. Maverick gets their flat dtivers home most weekends which means approx 47 out of 52 on average. Depending where in Pa you live we have a dedicated account near Pittsburg(or we did) plus I think it may be a good area for our RAT division (regional Atlantic).

Being well dressed and well groomed will get you the job. I shave my head too, and have alot of tattoos. My company makes me cover some of them, but thats it.

Id hire a well dressed tattood and pierced driver over a dirty non tattood and non pierced driver anyday.

Well I have a half sleeve to my elbow and half my back covered in tats but both are covered with a shirt. I do have snakebites in my lip but I can swap the rings for studs or clear plastic plugs if necessary, not that I understand how any of that has to do with my work ethic but oh well.

Maybe someday I can get the dream gig hauling trailer for a heavy metal band on tour that way I will fit in with the rest of the freaks.

I live in central pa off I99 between I76 and I80.

Not at Maverick it wont. You wont see anyone at Maverick sporting lots of metal and offensive tats. We do have some guys with tats that are sleeve length but they are asked to keep them covered at customers. Bottom line its an image thing for tgem. I am not passing judgement Im just tryin to keep a driver from wasting his time. As far as the "snakebites" those will be an issue. Maverick will ask you to leave them out at all times while you are representing them including driving. So just be honest with them about what you have and what you're willing to accept for the job. No shame if thats a no go for you. Best to know before orientation.

Like I said with Maverick its an image thing. Tats must be coverable. However I do encourage drivers to always ask. They have made allowances before for things like a tat that came above the collar but they decided after seeing a photo of it from the driver it wouldnt be too bad and hired him. So it never hurts to ask. Better to be honest up front rather than wasting your time on a long bus ride.
