I'm starting to price out some gear for my new truck (I'm testing out next week) and RoadPro seems to be the appliance of choice at the truck stops. My trainer has the cooler and lunch box oven. I can get most anything online cheaper than the truck stops. Is RoadPro the way to go?

Other brands for coolers and food heating appliances? In the beginning I won't buy both a microwave and oven. Maybe in the future. I won't need coffee or anything like that.

    All feedback appreciated!

I go through a road pro lunch box cooker every year or so. I do NOT cook raw foods as I don't trust it to get warm enough and stay warm enough. I only reheat in mine.

I recommend an inverter, microwave, George foreman, and crock pot if you really want to eat well

I have not had good luck with thermo electric coolers I had one good one out of three I have had a norcold portable fridge for the last 6 years and it has been great even freezes. The fridge was $750. Fridge runs off 110 or 12 volt plug.

I have a roadpro lunchbox cooker but will probably never us it again. For $60 I picked up a 700W, 0.7qt microwave from Walmart.

For keeping stuff cold, the Coleman 40qt electric cooler is $88 from Walmart. Mine is 1.5years old and still works fine. I did have to cut off the plug and replace it once because it got broken but other than that I've had no problems with it. It also fits into the cubby behind the passenger seat if you remove that trim piece to put it in there. You will need a T20(I think) torx bit to remove and replace the trim screws after putting it in there.

NEVER buy stuff from a truckstop unless you have no other choice. Try to find a Walmart first.

I spent $69 on a Black and Decker dorm fridge. It plugs into the factory Volvo power inverter system. Its a actual compressor fridge and not a thermo electric one and has an actual freezer compartment. I also have the Roadpro lunchbox warmer and I've cooked raw meat with it. It gets to 350F which is more than satisfactory for cooking food.

I have the lunchbox and it is great. I also have the small refrigerator and it sucks. I don't even use it.

Between the two, I'm more worried about reliable refrigeration. The lunchbox oven we had worked pretty good. It got hot enough to simmer some leftovers in tinfoil. I don't plan to cook meats from raw, but given enough time I think it could handle it. Long slow cook crock pot style. But again, down the road if I get more into it I would just get the portable crock pot.

I wasn't happy at all with the cooler. Too many times I ate leftovers that were a little gnarly. My trainer had a good system of bringing frozen stuff from home. Frozen stuff stays cold most of the week. But that only works if you go home every weekend. We got hung out last weekend. Week 2 is a whole different story.

I'd love a portable fridge but I'm not about to spend $1000 to make ice in the truck. Any mid range compromise between $70 cooler and $1000 freezer/fridge?

Make sure you measure before thinking it will fit in the fridge space. I'm not positive but I don't think that one will. You might have to secure it somewhere else in the truck.

Could be a good one but from what I've heard, fridges like this are not made for the abuse that some roads may present and it will go out sooner.
