Maverick provides all the bungees, straps, tarps, etc. that you'll ever use for securement and tarping. You won't need much in the way of tools either other than a few very basic ones, because you're not supposed to do your own repairs. You can send in a breakdown message on the quallcom for virtually anything like that.
Whenever you need something along those lines, it can be replaced or repaired at one of Maverick's yards. They'll give you all the extra bungees you'll need, and also provide PB Blaster (kinda like wd40).
Personal belongings. Clothes. Computer of some sort. Decide if you're going to eat on the truck or in truck stops, and plan accordingly. You can have small fridges and microwaves, but they want to do the installing for you. Same probably goes for tv. Most guys have GPS and many have satellite radio.
You'll need a CB. The company does not provide them, and some shippers pretty much require communication through CB when you're there. They are also handy for real-time traffic and weather, but you do have to tune out the garbage.
Motor Carrier's atlas. Rand McNalley's laminated one is the best. Do not rely on GPS too much.
Get all the truckers/truck stop apps you can find if you have a smart phone or tablet. Very helpful. There are also books out there that have similar information.silverdrifter Thanks this. -
If you are glass you have to buy a 1/2 ratchet and a 15/16 socket to set up and take down the a-frames on the trailers. I would also buy a 3 to 4' crow bar because shippers nail lots of blocking to the trailers. I would also suggest a short round bar (I use a 1' piece of rebar) for releasing you straps when you unloading in a tight pit and I also use 1" straps a lot to keep the tarp from flapping on some of the odd shape load we get.
