Hello,
I drove for Maverick years ago when they only had a flatbed division, I loved it and I was home every week. I have been off of the road for a few years, and I think I am about to get back on it. What is the home-time like for the TCD? I have read different stories on here, but not any real recent ones. I will have to go back out with a trainer for 21 days I know that. is it 21 days straight, or will I get home any during that time? If I do not like TCD after a while can I switch to flatbed? Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

The actual duration of the trainer truck session is set by the trainer based on their assessment of your readiness to go solo but 21-days is the minimum duration including whatever home time you get. (YMMV) Drivers with >6mo recent experience can skip the trainer truck and "test out."
You'd have to talk to recruiting about transferring between divisions, but I believe there is a six-month minimum before you can switch. The challenge is that the securement training and trainer truck experience is significantly different between the divisions, so it is a non-trivial task.
As to TCD home time. I think the norm is ~3 weeks out and you "earn" 1 day/wk of home time.
Good luck.arjeepguy501 Thanks this. -
Ronin, what kind of miles are you getting?
-
The target for TCD is 2350/wk. Lately my mileage has been in the 2750-2850 range. How you manage your time and hours availability is a big factor in driving mileage numbers in Maverick TCD. I tend to stay out longer, so it's easier for a planner to load my truck since he doesn't have to worry about hanging me out over a weekend. That being said, luck is a part of the equation as you can be in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time when freight is running.

How is TCD? im thinking of going that route

It helps to be a little crazy, but we like it.

In all seriousness, TCD is a lifestyle more than just a job (Maverick isn't unique with regards to the demands of hauling perishable commodities.) It either works for you or it doesn't. If temp control is your thing, then adding the Maverick layer is like icing on the cake. We're winning new business and looking for drivers who "Get It" and are willing to get after it. P
