Just wondered if Maverick still has all-auto fleet? What's the drawback ( if any) to driving an auto?

    Thanks.

    Still all auto.
Pain the butt sometimes, but I don't have too many problems with my autos. Technically get better fuel mileage off em, but I don't like working the Eaton's when I'm jaking down hills. Just a preference more than thing.

Big push for autos in large fleets for simplicity and reduced damage to driveline from driver error.

(Not a Maverick driver, just vaguely familiar with them.)

when you want to move up in the world you won't have REAL experience if you don't have experience with stick.

I've heard some companies will make you do a refresher course at a CDL school if you don't have any experience driving a manual trans. That could be expensive if you look to change jobs down the road. And if you do get hired without a refresher, all companies will require you to do a road test as part of the orientation/hiring process. If you can't get it down the road during the road test, they will send you packing.

Just my opinion, but I think going to an all auto fleet as your first driving job would be a mistake. After you get some experience, driving an auto would be ok if that is your choice. But you need to start off driving a manual. There will be a point in your career where you will be required to drive one, so you need to know how to do it.

I drove for Maverick for 3 years and am currently in the process of going back and I will tell you that SOME of what the above posters say is true. When I left Maverick to get a local job, I was denied many times due to the fact that I had no verifiable manual transmission experience. Even though I had driven a manual many times before (it had been over 3 years) and had all of my endorsements, clean record, etc, I was denied. It was like I had no experience at all. It just depends on you. If you're the kind of guy who wants to work during the week and go home on the weekends and not be OTR, I think Maverick would be perfect for you. The trucks go 64 and are automatics, but it's a great company and you'll be happy.

Saw a Maverick " skate board" trailer/truck today. Freightliner with the nice shiny rims on truck and trailer. Is that pretty standard. Truck was clean and looked real nice. Saw it on 270 on north side of Columbus. Looked well taken care of.

Yes that is standard Maverick equipment. Most of their fleet is less than 4 years old.
