Waiting for Maverick Trainer for TCD

    I have been waiting for 2 weeks for a maverick TCD trainer to become available. So I can be scheduled for Orientation. I am now going on 3rd week. I really want to go with maverick I have heard lots of good things about them. I just not sure how long I can hold out. I need to get to work. Recruiter told me that they would call as soon as they got the word. Application has been approved. Just waiting. Any advice?

    As a fellow TCD Guy, the best advice i can tell ya, just keep waiting, use this time to practice learning how to read a map, and read up on the logging procedures. They only have approx 8 TCD Trainers.

    Contact Big-M Transportation in Blue Mountain, MS and maybe they will cut some slack on experience and put you to work Monday morning. Check the website & submit an online application. You might get lucky. Good looking trucks too.

    If that doesn't work check these and you probably won't have to wait any longer; they all hire new grads:

    Hey photo4ron, I was in the exact same position as you. I've done a lot of research over the past few months on potential employers and Maverick TCD was my #1 choice. I spent three weeks on the "standby list" for orientation. Each week my recruiter advised that only one TCD slot had come available for orientation and unfortunately each week it wasn't assigned to him. When I received the same news from my recruiter for a fourth week in a row and was told that I just needed to remain patient and keep my fingers crossed for the next week, I decided that I couldn't wait another week with no guarantee that it would turn out any different. So I told my recruiter that due to finances, I had reached the point where I just couldn't wait any longer and would have to move on to my #2 company where I could start orientation the very next Monday. My research indicates that Maverick is a top-notch company and would be a great place to work. However, Maverick's extremely limited number of training slots available for TCD and the way the available slots are randomly assigned to recruiters instead of being assigned to applicants based on their application approval date are big problems for drivers wanting to work for Maverick TCD.

    Hey photo4ron let me know how you progress with maverick. Im looking to go with Tyson Foods , Averitt Express or Melton Truck lines

    photo4ron, My experience with Maverick TCD recruiting was very, very recent. In fact, it was just yesterday that I talked with my Maverick recruiter and advised him to withdraw my application as I simply couldn't afford to wait any longer. I'm starting orientation/training with Tyson Foods this coming Monday.

    Forget Averitt. Tyson Foods is an excellent option. Melton is OK too. Can't figure how I forgot Tyson in Post #3. Navajo Express is OK for reefer running coast-to-coast & the trucks have APU's and inverters installed, but make more annual pay with Tyson because they haul their own product; give the good loads to their own drivers and the junk loads to outside carriers.

    Wait for maverick if you can, it is worth it. Trust me, you will probably learn a lot in this company.

    Have you asked if you can train with a flatbed trainer? I know that they have offered this to students in the past, I would at least see about it before making up my mind.
