I just got mine yesterday for the sake of getting it. The closest "port" city was Wilmington, NC. Odd though, the office you go to in Wilmington isn't even close to their Port. So, I drove 4 hours to sit down for a 15-minute process of having my identification documents scanned and get my fingerprints taken by a 19-year old. Gee, didn't TSA get this already when I got my HazMat endorsement? I guess GovCo still isn't sharing info.

BTW, it can be 6-8 weeks before you get the actual card. The crazy part is they won't mail the card to you. You have to pick it up in person.

i just got an email from my recruiter that i've been accepted for orientation this weekend!! i cant wait, from what i hear, maverick is a really great company to work for.

thought i was leaving this weekend to orientation, but my recruiter told me i'm on a waiting list. the recruiters have to devide people according to the amount of trainers they have. i'm the fourth one down on my recruiter's list, so it could be a couple of weeks before i go :/...but i'm more than willing to wait for a good company like mav!! it took only a day for them to call me after i filled out an application, because i found an email from eric noland on this forum ( or one of the maverick forums) , he works for maverick, so he actually contacted the recruiter for me!

Maverick is a smart co. Most co's would send you to orientation and then say we don't have available trainers.

so are all mavericks trucks freightliner cascadias? and what type of luxuries do you get when you first start, such as do they have serious satellite and cd player gps..or do you have to furnish all that! another thing, i read on one of these forums someone said they didnt have dispatchers?

how would they go about that?

Both trucks I had were columbia's They have CD players. I had XM, but you have to pay for it. I also had a GPS. That too was mine. They don't have dispatchers they have FM's (fleet managers) FM's do not dispatch you. CSR's find your loads. (Customer service reps) When you go empty the csr does not know who you are. All they know is that a truck in a area is empty. That prevents the good ole boy system of some getting good loads. 1st empty, first on the list.

a few 2006 columbia models still left in the fleet, otherwise its 2007 columbia models or cascadias. all equipped with cd radios that also have weather band on them. sirrus or whatever satellite radio, you cover that. Maverick does not have an account with idle air (last i heard idle air is bankrupt. . . again) I have seen some truckstops with it still available but if you want to use it, you pay for it out of your own pocket.

All of the trucks are automatics BUT Maverick is big on their MPG. 6.85 is their current company goal which is easily obtainable if you drive smarter rather than harder. Its the difference between efficiancy and effectiveness. Anyone can get in a truck, drive it as fast as it'll go from point A to point B and make the delivery. . . (effective) An efficient driver will drive the truck smartly and efficiently as possible using all they have learned during orientation, and the time they spent with their driver trainer if required to go out with one. Their delivery will still arrive on time but perhaps a bit later than the supertrucker who just hammers down where ever they may roll.

Yep no dispatchers, CSRs (customer service reps) who book, and assign the loads. Each driver assigned to a fleet manager who is responsible for a fleet of drivers.

Maverick tries to get their drivers home every weekend. Weekend being defined as 34 hour restart, not friday to monday. I explain it like this: Drivers will usually bring a load home with them that is expected to be delivered in most cases on monday by 1000am in the time zone where the delivery is. Based on what division you choose or are assigned (decided by yourself and your recruiter) after your monday delivery, its like fishing monday thru wednesday, they cast you out to catch the loads available. On Thursday, the load assignments change meaning they try to reel you in to get you home for the weekend (34 hour restart)

Loads used to be dispatched based on FIFO (first in first out) system but starting in October of 2009, ETAP (Estimated Time of Arrival Projection) came into play. With CSA 2010 coming down the pike, and Maverick being the proactive rather than reactive company that they are, loads are not only assigned by FIFO but also ETAP, and hours available to drive.

So lets say you have two empty Maverick drivers sitting side by side each having sent in their empty call. If one driver only has 3 hours available to drive that day based on HOS (hours of service) and the other driver has 9 hours to drive based on HOS, even though the driver that has only 3 hours available to drive sent in their empty call first, the next load available might require more than that first empty maverick's 3 hours available to drive in order to get the delivery to the customer on time so the driver that has the hours available to get the delivery to the customer on time, legally based on HOS, in this case, the driver with 9 hours available to drive would be given the load.

Dispatches on Friday or possibly thusday seem to take a bit longer sometimes from what i've seen because the CSRs are trying to dispatch the loads to get the drivers home. I dont care if i have two wait a few minutes or even a few hours to get a load home for the weekend rather than just have the next load thrown at me that would hang me out for the weekend or require my fleet manager to try to find me a swap to get me to the house.

The baby's up and i'm home alone so thats all for now. I will try to check in again before I have to leave out 2mrw at 1300 to head to the delivery in Columbia, SC. 502 miles from the house. 10 hours away factoring in mountains, a fuel stop and a 10 hour break to get me to the delivery by the beginning of the delivery window for out customer.
