I did make what has been called a "marathon run" a few weeks back...Hauling Thomas the Train from Felton, CA to Strasburg, PA.

I left Felton, CA at noon on Monday (3pm eastern)...and delivered Thomas to Strasburg, PA at 10am (eastern) Friday morning...3,000 miles....drive, sleep, drive, sleep, repeat as needed.

Thats making pretty darn good time in a 65mph truck, and I could have been there a couple of hours sooner, I slept in a little Thursday morning...I still have it in me (when needed), but don't really wanna do it any more than I have to.

In a nutshell...the way things are now...its pointless to get 3,600 miles in one week, because your next week will suck (you'll be running off the recap)...it just evens out to an average of around 2,700 miles per week if you're lucky...if you're not so lucky the average can be a bit lower (2,200 or so...or worse)

The "weeks" on that job were 5 day weeks...I spent every Saturday and Sunday at home :yes2557:

The deal was: 3 round trips per week...from home (Surgoinsville, TN) to Lansing, MI and back.

I stayed out of Ohio because of the speed I needed to average to get it done and be able to get at least some sleep. I always took I74 over to Highway 9 in Indiana, up 9 to I69...made the trip a little longer, but my odds of a speeding ticket were much less that way. (I got paid for the miles I drove)

I had to leave home with the first load of the week at 7am on Monday and be back in Morristown with the last load by 11pm on Friday...there was no waiting to be loaded on either end (ever)...just drop, hook, and roll.

The truck wasn't governed, it didn't look like much...it was just an International 9400i Eagle...but with a 550 hp Cummins ISX and a 13 speed tranny....the old girl would "git r done". I miss that truck...these Maverick trucks are like Tonka toys in comparison.

I was hauling rough forged pistons up there to be annealed...and hauling them back to Mahle to be machined...Not just one, but 3 production lines at 3 different locations depended on me being on time. I was on time every time...

    PMT (forging facility...Surgoinsville, TN)
Atmosphere Annealing (I think the name has changed now...Lansing, MI)
    Mahle (final machining...Morristown, TN)

34 miles from Morristown to Surgoinsville for the next load...with the empty trailer from the previous load.

You don't even wanna know about the log book...I'm sorta proud of the experience of that job, but do not EVER wanna do it again...thats what eventually led me back to Maverick...

Probably, but you don't get to pick and choose your trainer. You get whoever is available. Count on being away from home.

Ridgerunner, I have an old friend in Surgoinsville. If you ever talk to a man named Tim Hartsock, tell him Keith said Hi.

I've been out of the glass division for quite some time...but yes, they'll give you what you need...or rather, a list of what you need, its up to you to make sure you have everything on the list before heading out to get a load. A lot of stuff used to stay with the trailer...not sure if they still do it that way or not.

I've never pulled a load of glass for Maverick...I was one of the Schneider drivers that came to Maverick when they bought Schneider Specialized...when that happened, I had already quit hauling glass, I had been on the heavy haul fleet for about a year.

Haha, that would be something if a stranger came up and said "Hey, Tim, Keith says Hi".

He's overweight, has a beard, is almost totally blind, carries a cane and will probably be attired in western or midieval themed clothing (or some other themed clothing). In other words, he's just like me except I don't have a beard, can see, carry a winch bar instead of a cane, and never wear themed clothing.
