I am waiting for my orientation date to be set up. She told my about the medical, drug and physical test consist of. Sound like a test that I took for warehouse job at US Foods. They were pretty thorough, had to pick up so much weight and put it on a shelf over your head. Push and pull xx amount of weight on a skid.

I worked in a warehouse as an order selector for over 12 years. Amazing how much weight you pick up through out the day.

Any other advice you can give a noobie will be greatly appreciated.

Best advise I can give is pay close attention during all of your training, take notes, lots of notes, and ask questions. The barn is hot where you do load securement, so make sure you stay hydrated , and good luck with everything.

One thing I know is that there is never a dumb ? just a dumb answer. I am looking at getting on with the TCD line. You always learn something new or different every day.

Thanks for the advice. Does the TC division run through Iowa?? I lived up there til a year ago when we moved down to Texas.

I am graduating cdl training school on july 6th, if i come to maverick do i still have to do the weeks of medical tests and 12 hr. classes? im a little confused. how do you get paid with maverick, by the mile or percentage or what, and how does that translate to actual bring home money? what do you think the average bring home would be per week? thanks

You will have to do a DOT physical and a physical agility test. ONLY if you have a medical issue will you have to maybe do a few extra things to qualify. Your recruiter can tell you what to expect as long as you're 100% truthful. You will have approximately one week orientation then another week or so in the securement barn if going flats then riding with a trainer for some actual on the job training. Until you get your own truck you will be paid a salary. Once you get your own truck you will be paid by the mile.

You are going Temp Control.. I can't give you much advise on that other than orientation and the physical. I'm a flatbedder and your training after orientation will be a lot different than mine.

Well I made it to nlr on Saturday at 620 from Atlanta ga and it is everything I heard it was on here. They have a very nice facility great trainers and great equipment a real family atmosphere. Passed all my test and agility/physical and accepted my job offer for RAT division today. It feels good to be officially part of maverick but gotta stay focused more training to do

Yes the TCD division goes into Iowa. I have a friend of mine who is in the TCD division and he goes to Iowa at least once a week. He is also going to be a trainer, starting in July. He likes to run hard and utilize all of his time; so whoever gets him as a trainer, knows now what he will expect.

Congratulations on becoming a Maverick! If you have any questions while you are still in training, ask them!!!! There is never a dumb question. It's only dumb if you were needing to ask, but afraid that you would be looked down upon.

A word of advice, to anyone who reads this. You CANNOT stay at a New Jersey Scale House to do your 10hr. break. I had to play stupid and act like I was a brand new driver delivering my first load to get out of a $350.00 ticket. I told the DOT officer that when I was with my trainer, he said that scale houses were safe havens (he really did tell me that they were safe havens) and that we could do our 10hr break if there wasn't anywhere else to park. I told him I didn't know any different.
