I plan on calling the recruiter back tomorrow, but wanted to find out from y'all first.

I'm looking at Maverick for the regional FBD, but since I haven't driven in 4+years, they want to send me through the student training program. I'm cool with that, but how exactly do we get paid for that? I was told it would be 6 weeks in total: 3 weeks in Little Rock followed by 3 weeks on the road.

Their website is not very clear. It says $550 per week during finishing school, $500 orientation pay, $800 graduation pay ($400 after going solo and $400 on first dispatch), starting at .33/mile.

So how exactly does all of this add up? Do you only get $500/week during the driving portion of training? When is the orientation pay given out?

Anyone that has gone through the whole shebang at Maverick, please enlighten me, thanks!

Also, what can I expect during the 3 weeks in Little Rock? What should I bring? What shouldn't I bring? What will make my time in training as easy as possible? I heard somewhere on here that there is no way to lock the door to your room so don't leave anything in there, but they have to provide a way for you to lock your stuff up.

I live in Dallas, so to get to Little Rock the recruiter mentioned that they would put me on Greyhound, but at 6'2" and 350lbs, Greyhound and I don't exactly fit well together, so I will be driving my own car up there during the 6 weeks of training. This means I will have my own car to use for things like running to Walmart or grocery stores and things. I'll probably drive it back down to Dallas once I go solo, and then either rent a car to get back to Little Rock or fly.

When you get to orientation on day 1 you will get a $50 visa gift card, your first paycheck will be not that Friday but the following Friday for $500 gross, and each Friday thereafter $550 gross. After you make it to Thursday and have received your official job offer advances are available if needed. Orientation and securement training are 2 weeks, after that since you have prior OTR you will have to be assigned to a trainers truck for a minimum of 21 days. On weekends if the trainer get to go home and you do not live close, Maverick will put you up on a room, food will be on you.
I would only bring clothes, steel toes boots, laundry bag, calculator, and a motor carriers road atlas. They do provide a SMALL lock box and lock of needed. During orientation Maverick will feed you lunch, after job offer day you are on your own. They do have vans available if needed.

I live in little rock and didn't have to travel, your recruiter can answer all of that.

Listening carefully, take notes, always usage 3 points of contact, DON'T WALK ON THE GRASS.

If you pass everything on Monday it is all downhill from there. And remember that the week in securement training is hard but you will not do that many securements and tarp jobs in one day as you do in those bays.

    good luck.

Don't forget toiletries, shower shoes, and maybe a pair of tennis shoes if you don't like wearing boots all day everyday. N

Thanks ARJEEPGUY501, I appreciate the info.

When you say small lock box, how small are we talking? I had 2 duffel bags full of stuff stolen from me while at the CR England home terminal in SLC, so leaving my clothing and toiletries makes me a little nervous knowing that I can't lock the room.

I was already told by my recruiter they will reimburse me the same amount as what the Greyhound ticket would have cost them. I didn't get it in writing, but I do have it recorded, so that's even better.

Where exactly is the "hotel" the trainee's stay at? Is it at the terminal area just east of Little Rock?

So basically during that first week, you get the $50 prepaid visa and they give you lunch until Thursday, but then you're on your own for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Is there a gas station close other than the Love's, Pilot, and Petro right there at exit 161 on 40?

It's going to be a little strange, having driven past Maverick's office so many times, to actually be on the other side of the fence.

BTW, what type of jeep do you have? I had to get rid of my 88 XJ a couple years ago, but I'm looking to get a JK unlimited in the next year or so.

Things can happen, but getting my stuff stolen was the least of my worries while in training. They don't hire just anybody. If you have your car, it will be inside the gates anyway so you can lock up more valuable stuff in there. The "hotel" is the Five Star Maverick... or something like that. It's on their yard at the facility. Nothing fancy, but pretty much a regular hotel setup.
If there's overflow from a large class, you might be put up at the Galloway Inn over by the truck stops. It's not horrible. It and the truck stops are the only services at that exit. The rest of North Little Rock is 10 minutes west on the freeway. Lots of nice eating options around McCain and Lakewood areas of NLR. The Walmart and Target are over that way as well.
As far as reimbursing and pay, they do what they say they will do. There is no runaround. Worst scenario is that you get sent home for some reason. You get a ticket or probably reimbursement home, and keep whatever pay you've been given, as far as I know. I have no experience with that route, so don't quote me on that.
Follow rules to a T, don't do anything weird, and you'll be fine.

The best way to look at this is that it is a on going job interview. Once you get the invite, it is your job to loose! I just became an over the road recruiter for them and spent the week watching and learning what they do to qualify you to come.to Maverick. They want you to.succeed....I want you to.succeed! There are no games!!Congrats and best of luck to you!

lockbox is about big enough to hold a wallet and a cell phone. Maybe 6 inches long x 4 inches deep x 4 inches wide.

I totaled my YJ Sahara out a while back, but that screen name stuck. I really miss it and would have bought another one but my wife and I had a third child and I bought a quad cab dodge ram to have room for all of us in both vehicles just in case.

The Maverick hotel is a standard double hotel room only without a tv in each room, there is a drivers lounge with a tv in it and a coffee pot and coke machine. Each room has a bathroom, shower and a micro fridge. There Are no locks on the doors each bed has its own closet, it is open, and it's own desk.

Maverick will pay you, the reimbursement will be on your first check.

Other than the truck stops you mentioned nothing is right there, however it is not but a few miles to McCain Blvd where there is Walmart, and all kinds of restaurants.

Sorry about typing errors fat fingers on a little phone.

If you would like I can PM you my number and you can call me.
