I'm very interested in joining Maverick's glass division, I've already talk to a recruiter but just want to get more info from drivers and others that already work for Maverick. Questions are:
    1. what is the home time like, is it really 2 weeks out most times?
    2. What are the main running lanes for Glass, I live in NC.
    3. How are the miles and pay?

Maverick's over the road glass division will get you home every other weekend if that is what you want. That's what I do most of the time. I usually leave the house Monday morning and return on a Friday. When I send in my hometime request, I always make my return time 3pm on Friday. They try to get you back by that time, but don't make promises. Sometimes I return pretty close to that, sometimes I get home late, like 10pm to midnight, and sometimes I've been back home as early as Thursday afternoon. It all depends on the timing of your last delivery. Going home every two weeks does tend to lower your miles because your last load or two may not be ideal, but instead a compromise to get you back home. Guys who stay out three or four weeks tend to get better miles. West coast runs require you to be out at least three weeks, as well as going to central and western Canada.

The majority of deliveries are in almost all the states that are east of the Mississippi, along with Minnesota, Texas, California, and lots of deliveries to Canada, especially around Toronto. We pick up from about 15 different glass plants, but the most frequent ones are in Carlisle PA, Geneva NY, Laurinburg NC, Church Hill TN, and DeWitt IA. Occasionally, we haul general flatbed freight as backhaul, which can be steel or lumber products. The glass division will also haul JLG lifts out of their two assembly plants in Pennsylvania.

The pay rate for glass is pretty good, but the miles aren't as high as you will get with a drop and hook job. Loading and unloading can be very time consuming, which cuts into your available driving time. When you first start out, it's not unusual to take 5 to 7 hours to get your glass loaded, secured and tarped. The longer you do it, the faster you get. Some of the guys that have been at it for years can be in and out in an hour or so. You get tarp pay for each load that needs to be tarped, and you get $30 each time you have to take down or set up the glass racks on a flatbed. I've been on my own since February, and I'm averaging around $700 a week take home, which would be a gross income around $45K.

Ok thank you that's was very informative. Good insight on the glass division. About how many miles do you average a week & how long is the length of haul per load since the loading process can be time consuming

Sorry about the slow response. Tonight is my first opportunity to spend some free time on the computer.

Off the top of my head, I'm going to say they the average length of haul is 700 to 800 miles, and I run around 2000 miles a week. Typically, my first run out of the house is a longer one, then they get shorter as it gets closer to time to go back home. My current two weeks out is about average. Here's what I did:

Left the house on Monday empty and went to Carlisle PA to load.

Carlisle, PA to Owatonna, MN. 229 miles empty/1023 miles loaded

Mount Zion, IL to North Brunswick, NJ. 461 miles empty/836 miles loaded

Carlisle, PA to Montreal, Qc. 166 miles empty/505 miles loaded

Geneva, NY to West Babylon, NY. 292 miles empty/316 miles loaded.

West Babylon to home on Friday.

Total paid miles 3828, which averages to 1914 miles per week.

I usually spend some time sitting on the weekends that I'm not home. Ideally, I would want to sit Saturday evening and all day Sunday to get a 34 hour reset, but often the schedule doesn't work that way and I miss out on a reset. That's what happened this week. I left Spring Hill Kansas late Thursday night and arrived here in Fall River Massachusetts Sunday afternoon for a Monday morning delivery. I'm not even close to getting a reset in, so I'm just about out of hours. Maverick's computer system is aware of this, so they are giving me till Wednesday to pick up my next load in Geneva NY. Fall River is home to Battleship Cove, a WWII battleship which you can take a tour of. I was on it back in the 1970's, when I was about 7 years old. After I unload in the morning, I'm planning to grab a taxi and spend the day on the Battleship, then I can head to Geneva in the evening. At 1am Tuesday I'll pick up enough extra hours to make it to Geneva. I like to run as many miles as I can in a day and use up all my hours so that I can have a day off. Sometimes I luck out and I'm somewhere interesting. At the very least, I try to be somewhere that I can go for a good long walk to get some exercise. A lot of guys that I talk to don't drive more than 10 hours a day, so they never run out of hours, so they don't need to sit, and don't ever have to take the 34. Once you have been with Maverick for a while and have been assigned your official fleet manager, you can have your loads scheduled to fit they way you want to run.

I would say yes on that. To be honest, I'm not one to keep close tabs on miles driven, and for some time I had even forgotten all about the 800 mile weekend pay. I think there may be some fine print on that 800 mile pay, and sometimes you may not qualify for it. Last weekend I drove over 800 miles on Saturday and Sunday, so no freebies that week. So far, this week has been a mess, running on recap with very few hours. I barely made it out of NYC this morning before running out of hours, and will have to wait till sometime on Thursday to get another load. On a good note, Maverick just added bonus pay for NYC and Canada. $200 per trip for NYC and $40 per trip to anywhere in Canada.
