I just finished cdl school and was pre hired with maverick. I have been prescribed a medication for 10 years and have a letter from my doctor will I have any issues passing the dot exam or be asked to stop taking the medication? I really want to work for Maverick and will know monday if I can come to orientation next week if a trainners available for me just concerned ill get sent home when I tell doctor the medication I am prescribed it has amphetamines in it so I want to find out if I need to get off it and when I come give them doctors letter and tell them im no longer taking meds or if ill be ok since I am following the FMCRR rules and regs by obtaining a letter from my doctor explaining my perscrption.

Did you disclose this medication when you had your DOT physical prior to starting your CDL school?

Assuming that's a yes (and the Dr. signed off on your DOT physical)...I would think you'd be ok.

Yes I did disclose It and have it noted on my long form physical. So I was given a medical card. Now isnt it up to the doctor who exams me if they want to say im fit for duity? I guess im just worried that they would just say im disqualified hers ur ticket home and not allow me to change meds. So what I was thinking was to not take medication till I get examined then disclose to the doctor that I am prescribed to this medication and heres my letter from my doctor and if doc signs off on me being able to take it then ill continue taking it and if not it wont be in my system and ill have to be off the meds. See I know it will show up on my hair test so idk if that gets seen by maverick and they will decide my fate or it stays between the MRO and myself. With my past jobs I always had to send them my script info cause my drug tests come up positive for amphetamine and they verify my script and then I recive a negative result when they tell my employer. Id love if a person who works/worked for Maverick my have had a similar situation

You should be fine. Providing that you've been on the medicine for a while now and know how the medicine affects you personally then there shouldn't be an issue. Disclose that when needed though and don't try to hide it.

As I recall they are mostly concerned about things with a sedative effect or new medicines you haven't taken before.

Good. Yea ive been on meds since 2005 so ten years and while I was in trucking school I was able to take it and passed my test first tine and graduated with a 97% gpa so it definitely doesnt affect my abilities to be safe and alert while driving. I do get that people try and get on it just to take if they are tired and need to be awake. Trust me I love my sleep and the last thing id want to do is risk anyones life when im out on the roads. I definitely am upfront with the medication and they told me to discuss any meds I take with HR and the dot doctor I just didnt want to waste anyones time as well as mine if I was going to get down there just to be disqualified sad thing is a few companies I did ask about the medication I was taking after I recived a pre hire once I told them I take this medication and have a letter from my doc and am even willing to change meds if need be stopped returning my calls and just gave me the cold shoulder im sure they will never admit thats why but it just makes people think they need to hide the fact they are on meds or they stop taking them for a job and it causes more of a safty risk than them being on the medication. So im hoping everything works out I have three pre hires and maverick is my first choice ill find out tommrow if I can come to next sundays orientation they just need to make sure ill have a trainer before I can come to orientation. Ive been going to the playground by my apartment and climbing up things so Im sure ill be able to climb that box being out of work added a couple pounds on me so wanted to be sure I could still lift myself up.

Well, it's time for my infamous shameless plug...

Have you considered Schneider? I know people don't like the mega carriers, but in limited time I've been with them I've enjoyed my experiences.

I filled out a paper and gave it to the recruiter when he came to my school and I never got a call from them I know some places like to see you show interest by contacting them but idk at the moment they need us we dont need thwm so I applied to 4 companys and 3 sent me pre hires I really want to go with maverick I am still young and flat bed sounds like my cup of tea I want to stay in shape and it forces me to get out of truck and do some physical activity I dont mind the cold or I should say being out in the elements plus they have burgandy trucks so if I can accent it with alittle gold and I can represent my Washington Redskins

I would discuss it with the inside recruiter. They will be able to tell you one way or another.

    Thanks!
