Thats funny .. I had credit probs cause my identity was stolen twice. First time from V.A and second time from Oregon DMV.

Also, when I was in my 20's I dint care or think the same way as I do now in my 40's.

To say someone with credit probs is irresponsible with finance is just plain rubbish.

Most often it is Paloma. It's too easy to get into debt. Your story I would bet is the exception. I like joker and just don't want to see another good person get hosed in a lease. No matter how well it's setup, it still benefits the company.

It benefits the Company and the lease/Owner.. it a way to START a business. Its easy to sit back and make judgements.I disagree about the bad credit/cant manage money theory ... understand, most people when they are young in their 20's don't think about serious issues for later in life. Just cause you had bad credit due to something stupid in yer past, young, ill informed, ex or many reasons... does not mean you cant manage finances.

Banks benefit from the loan to. I'm doing it to get a taste of it before I get a loan like paloma did. Lease first truck, bank loan second. Someone stole my identity as well when I was deployed in the military.

I've bin trying to call Daryl Boyd a couple times today. I worked for May back in 2005. And while I was with them a solid year. I was quite happy with them. I have a couple questions here. Do I have to go through a 90 day probation period with them even though I have 5 to 6 years experience? Also how much faster do the lease trucks go. 61mph is just too slow.

Mornin' everyone. I know this is an old thread but it hits on the topic I'm interested in. So rather than start a new one hopefully somebody can chime in with some input on the subject. I will be going with May as my first actual company. going to look into the whole 90/90 deal just to be secure. I do have a household to take care of so the whole budgeting the finances comes into play for me. So at the moment I currently clear $850 ish every 2 wks at my current job. (Security) So the 90/90 actually rounds out to more than what I presently take home if you guesstimate 10% of the check going to taxes etc. My mortgage is $950/mth and my truck will be paid off in the next 6 mths. So for me I am strongly considering the whole lease option after my initial 90 days to get the ball rolling on making this a beneficial career move for me and my family. I'm tracking that some companies require you to be responsible for all preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, fuel, tolls, permits etc. As a newbie to this lifestyle would it be hooah of me to go for the lease or just stay as a company driver for a while. I keep getting mixed answers with people saying leases are traps and some saying its great because they got their start with a lease option. All help is appreciated.

    Leases are traps.

Most leases have a walk away clause. Drivers think it's great, because they can walk away if they start to fail. Most don't realize that the company can also cancel at any time, leaving you with nothing at all.

The truck is not titled in your name. You cannot make any alterations to the truck to improve fuel economy or performance. You cannot take the truck to another carrier. You are stuck there.

You are leased to the company that is forced dispatch. Don't like the load? Don't like where it goes? Delivery time? Too bad. Relying on the company, that you are indebted to, to get you the miles to pay for your lease payment is a bad idea.

Most places won't let you look at the contract before hand. Won't send it to you so you can have a lawyer look it over. Big red flag. If it's so great, why can you not see it?

They may even break down what your expenses may be and what you can expect to take home. Most of the time they are so way off base, it's laughable.

Do the hard work and get some experience in trucking. Learn as much as you can about the business side of trucking before signing a lease. Learn about how cutting expenses related to your truck can greatly improve your bottom line. Improve your credit score as best you can. Save as best you can and buy a truck. Don't lease as an easy way out. They have led many to the poor house.

I don't know how May does their lease. You could always ask there in Brooks and see what it's all about.
