After starting a not-for-profit (and believe me, all this credit card debt proves it!) community bike shop, I took a 3 month hiatus in Hawaii, then was "unemployed" for a few months before applying to May. Thankfully, all my 5+ years of previous employment was solid. But that few months of gap nearly screwed me...

In a down employment market, where so many are re-training and applying for a new career, it bothers me that many companies want solid employment before hiring someone. Seems like they should recognize this and make allowances. And really, if I want to take 8 months off, I should be able without it becoming a negative.

Anyhow, just glad they hired me... :biggrin_255:

It's not a company policy it is a fed regulation. Though I guess I should not state that as fact, it's what I heard. All companies are doing it now.

i think it's fed regulation for dot jobs. company policy on non-dot jobs. if one needed a dot-job history, no newbie would be hired. as for company policy, i'm gonna start company training in a few days with another company..so i'm pretty sure it's depends on the company and is not an industry standard as of yet.

Pre-hire letter is a letter of intent if you meet all of their requirements, including the skills test at their facility.
