Reading through these May threads it occurred to me that there are not many posts about people being sent home from May orientations. There was 1 person mentioned that was sent home for not being able to shift, but not wholesale terminations like seems to occur with some of the other companies.
Is this because May checks out an applicant more thouroughly before bringing them to orientation than most other companies?

Yes, they do alittle more digging than the " Mega-Carriers"
who use the turn style method of orientation.
Plus the drive test is given right away and that helps weed out
the not quite good enough's. -
all your paperwork and such is gone over before orientation, so if you are there then you are all set as far as application, dmv checks, employers etc....
the only 2 reasons you would really get sent home during orientation would be not passing the driving test or the drug test, and those are both given the first day -
Or if your medical card is about to expire and you fail the physical for some reason like what happened to one of the guys in my orientation
-
Also, when you apply at May, you cannot have any gaps in your employment history. A lack of employment history would be another reason you would not be invited to orientation for employment consideration.
-
ya mean like a gap as far as not listing unemployment? cause before I went to truck driving school i was unemployed for a year
and yeah why would you start a new job with a physical that is or is about to be expired.... -
Unemployment fills the gap of not being employed. You just need to have something that shows what you were doing for the last 5 (?) years and unemployment, school, and jobs all count.
-
That's correct, everything has to be verifible. Having too many jobs listed, even if legitimate, can make it look like you hop from one job to the next, which employers frown on as well.
-
Had someone message me today who said he applied at May and was turned down because he didn't have enough work history over the past 5 years.
-
that would be me.
on the applications of the two companies i have applied for, none of them ask about my education. i obtained a degree in literature in '08. it was also around the last time i worked, temporarily ('07, summer job at school). maybe my standards were too high, but it was difficult finding work after i graduated. the whole point of me attending college was because i wanted to get out of service/retail sector. anyhow, having some sort of recent work experience helps with a lot of places, not just in trucking.
i still hold May in high regards and would be one of my recommendations to anyone asking.
