Good luck to you as well efron! Think i overheard some talk about someone leaving the company twice, and that there was no 3rd rehire or something like that. Cant say I wasn't tempted by looking elsewhere myself. not that I don't like may, but I was going to try the flatbed side. Tho for now here is where I'll stay, no family and all this type of living is ok for me... for now anyway, still new to me so havent grown tiresome of it just yet. If I ever figure out where i would actually want to live then I'll have an idea of what to look for when i put myself up on the recruitment block again lol
Farewell...again

Good luck to you guys,May was a good start for me too but I sure don't miss it now that I'm local and home daily.

Y2K, I've had 2 local job offers hauling wood chips. Could easily get hired by Walsh too. However, $14.50 an hr straight time and time and half for an additional 10 hrs a week just doesn't appeal to me. Thus, the reason I'm doing regional I-5. The 2 local chip hauling companies have crap for equipment and they wanted me to drive the graveyard shift.
I'm glad you're enjoying your gig at W!Last edited: Jun 2, 2012

I couldn't get by on $14 either,I gross between $800 and $1000 a week and sometimes a little more with average nights running about 10 hrs.
I also get $15hr detention pay if I have to wait more than 30 minutes anywhere or I break down.
That said I'm looking at another smaller company for the future,it may take a while to get on due to low turnover but it's closer to home and pays better.
They pay by percentage of the load,I've talked with several of their drivers and all said the same thing, about $60K a year working 5 days a week.
Anyways,a guy can do a lot better than $14hr in this gig.

I get the $14.50 an hr from what I was offered to work for the "local companies" I mentioned. Kapeesh?

Completed the 1 day of orientation today with my new company.
I hate to compare to May, however, May would do well to adjust their pay and benefits package. Might help to stem the bleeding of qualified drivers they are losing currently.
Here are some highlights from my new company:
1. A medical insurance plan that I'm actually not embarrassed to be on at $95 a mo. for just me.
2. 6 paid holidays a year plus vacation pay.
3. 40 hrs of sick leave after 1 year and 4 hrs a mo. thereafter up to 80 hrs per year.
4. 401k plan with company contributing 50% up to 10% of employee contribution.
5. Safety & mileage bonus of 3 cents per mile per month.
6. $55 paid toward employee cell phone.
7. Tractor equipped with C.B. radio.
8. Tractor equipped with built-in refrigerator/freezer
As I said previously, I will be running a regionally route, home at least 3 nights a weeks.
Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is -
Well, yesterday was my last day at May, again. I'm headed over to Furniture Row Express.

Have fun, Efon
I'm liking my new job. Started on Tuesday. Home tonight on my way up from L.A.to WA tomorrow. -
First week in the books tomorrow at the end of the day. Weekend off, 1 additional night at home on my way through and 3k plus miles.
