What exactly are you disagreeing with? The facts are the facts. The trucking industry is experiencing a massive shortage of drivers and new recruits coming into the industry precisely because of many of the reasons I sited. I never stated that I'm a big proponent of EOBR'S, or, goverment over-regulation of our industry, did I?

Personally, I can't stand EOBR'S and my conviction is that the current hrs of service, as written, are ridiculous.

My point in writing what I did is that those things are driving people out of the industry, some good, some bad and that the exposure of this information on the www is slowing the pace of new recruits into this industry. Those are the facts.

My sense is that a greater number of foreign workers will contine to enter the driving workplace in order to offset the demand.

Massive shortage of drivers, but people are always complaining about an abundance of cheap load rates? That doesn't make any sense.

The rates will also get cheaper if there is a massive influx of foreign workers willing to work for cheap as well. Cheap labor.

In addition, the facts are that trucking companies, big and small, are currently engaged in wage & benefits increases in order to retain and attract experienced drivers. Three to five thousand dollar sign on bonuses are common place right now. Which as I said, is good for those of us who are still in the industry ;-)

Scooter - lol, I'm saying that you get what you negotiate. If you take what is offered you will never make anywhere near what your worth. I have a great situation at may and even tho I have been offered more money by other companies there is major compromises I would have to make. I also believe loyality still means something.

You did what was needed for your desired outcome, good for you! As long as your happy!!

    Right on, Steve.

FYI, I tried to negotiate a satisfactory route that would keep me on the I-5 and home every week with enough miles to pay my bills. They just wouldn't commit to anything.

As far as loyalty goes, I wasn't there long enough to develop that kind of 2-way street. I heard how they stood with you during what had to of been one of the most difficult things a human can go through. They are to be commended!

BoyWander ... You forget, over 70% of the trucks you see on the road are Owner/Ops .. more than 50% of those Owner/Ops are 3 truck operations or less. The big mega carriers are hurting to stay alive. They rely on the Free Government Money for "New" drivers. Once that dries up. Its us with good records that are needed and kept .. as I am already seeing.

Mega firms on the brink of Bankruptcy: Swift, YRC Yellow, C.R. England, Prime, Pride, Navajo (Digby) and many more.
