Farewell...again

Well, my May buddies, I'm moving on. I just can't handle being away from home and community for 2 to 3 weeks at a time anymore. I took a regional driving position out of my own hometown that will allow me to be home up to 3 nights a week and home every other weekend.

I will check in from time to time. Take care and be safe!

I go in on Wednesday for pee test and physical. One day orientation, then rollin' again. The owner told me I'm going to be seated in a 2012 Volvo. I prefer a Pete, but beggars can't be choosey

In the interim, I have been doing a whole lot of nothing. Catching up on sleep, hanging out with my little grandson and I even went to church yesterday. Guess I'm having a mini-vacation without having to spend big money to go on vacation somewhere LOL.

I'm almost ready to roll, back to "reality" tomorrow, pending my pee results, which should be good seeing I haven't used illegal drugs since the 70's.

This company has a couple features I really like. Fuel bonus quarterly with a 6.5 mpg average. Safety bonus quarterly with no preventables or tickets. Also, a 1 cent per mile bonus on all miles if I run 11,000 in a month. Which shouldn't be too hard to reach running Portland to L.A. and back.

Each bonus can add up to some serious cash, which I like

Frankly, I don't know how these these bigger trucking companies handle the turn-over. I was told awhile back by someone in management at May Trucking they are presently hiring 20 drivers a week between all the different localities to just maintain the 1,000 drivers they have on the books.

20 a week @ say 50 weeks is 1,000! That's a 100% turn-over ratio. Is that even possible? Seems unreal. However, my experience in this industry is that it chews guys and gals up and spits them out.

Being away from home so much for many, coupled with low pay in relation to hrs out on the road is just untenable.
