Taking the 48 plunge
Okay, I give... UNCLE...I've had enough of the short, under 500 mile, runs. Last couple weekends I've spent WAAAAYYYY too much time sitting outside a Consignee before being able to deliver. After my next home time in a couple weeks I'll be joining the 48 ranks. I got a look at the runs available for the 11 Western guys vs the 48 and decided that you guys were right. I should've switched over to 48 a long time ago.
..
Question, how long do you 48 guys normally stay out for vs how much home time? I've heard everything from reguardless of how many weeks you stay out, you only are allowed 3 days home, to one day for every week out and to remember that anything over 5-7 off and you risk coming back to a different truck and your stuff in a box at Brooks waiting to be put in your next one. Thoughts?

I just switched over to the 48 a couple of days ago... but thats because I just got a new Truck from MAY... Also, 48 Side is booming, they are asking many on the 11 western if they can run temporarly run a few 48 side loads.
Wether I am on .. 11 or 48 .. I stay out about 3 weeks and go home 3-5 days ... I may add I'm an Owner/Op

I asked if I could change to somewhere other than Brooks and was told no. I could change DMs once if I couldn't get along with them, but I would stay out of Brooks.
As far as the East run goes, I asked and they said if they sent me out East I wouldn't be back for 3 weeks minimum.

FWIW, which is not much since I don't even work at May anymore, I asked to be transferred last month from Denver to Brooks and to have a Brooks DM. I was denied my request on both fronts. My reasons were not for anything negative, only logistics, Robyn Smith agreed with my position and made the request for transfer to Kyle in Brooks. He denied the transfer citing limited driver slot openings at Brooks.

I am dispatched out of Brooks, live in Phoenix. I always take a day (at least) for each week I stay out. I try to stay out no more than 4 weeks and take 4 days off but on the occasions where I am out for 7 or 8 weeks, I am for sure taking that many days off. I just clean out the truck before I go home so if they do put someone else in it, they don't have to remove all my crap and risk losing some of it in the process.
I don't care if they want to give the truck to someone else; it's not the end of the world if they do right?? Nope.
Speaking of going 48... I am 11 Western but for the past 10 weeks on the road I've spent more time in the mid-west than I have in CA. In fact, my DM asked me a few days ago to take a load of potatoes to Plover, which is where I am headed now.
I might as well switch over as well. 11 Western is hurtin'.
