I am in the application process for May trucking. I should be attending the Sept. 11th orientation but in the beginning of my application process I had a recruiter that was totally rude and I'm not going to name drop so I'll just call her O. Anyway when she received my application and then reviewed it she said "I have received your application but because you haven't worked in the past 3 years May trucking can't do anything for you" so I was advised to call her back and explain what I was doing for those 3 years and let me set the record straight yesI know I haven't worked in 3 years but I was going to college majoring in respiratory therapy and so after calling her I explained that and then I was lectured for not putting that under work experience but like I explained to her I didnt put it on the because I didn't consider that work. So a few days go by and I didn't recieve a call from anybody and I decided to call them to come and find out she cancelled my application. I asked for a new recruiter and I got someone by the name of jodi and yes I am name dropping now because she was the most helpful and nicest person I have met in a long time. After talking to her she started me a new application and went over my last 3 years and she told me going to school is alright in her eyes because it shows that I wasn't a lazy ##### sitting around doing nothing. And now because of jodi I am on my last stage of the application process which should be completed by Wednesday Sept. 5th 2012. Now after explaining all that the point to all this is my question. I'm not even with the company yet and I'm already getting bs and rudeness from a recruiter, is this the same cramp to expect when I actually start working for them?

Jodi is awesome. That is who I worked with. As with any job, you will find people such as you described. For the most part, most everyone has been very nice and helpful. I have been with May for two months and have only come across a couple of people with that demeanor. If you want to make Jodi's day, drop in there and introduce yourself. That's what I did and she was happy I did so!!!

Do you mean Jolene Tonra? Jolene is really nice.
Actually "O" is a nice person too. She was my recruiter when I went to work for May in 2009. Maybe she was having a rough day, who knows.
The issue regarding no gaps in employment history is a Federal one regarding truck driving, not a May Trucking requirement, they are required to enforce it.
My experience at May regarding support personnel was generally positive. There's always a grumpy a-hole in every company though.
Good luck on your new career.Last edited: Sep 1, 2012

I totally understand the gap in employment but don't just shut me out is my point listen to what I have to say is what I'm saying jodi did and got me in. But anyway I don't want to sound like a whinny bit## I was just asking how the attitude and most important is how is moral around may trucking. And trust me before I went to school I worked for a company that showed their true colors the first week I went to work for them and I still stuck around for 3 years. So I'm not asking to be pampered I'm just trying to find out what its like to be at may.

Got it. I thought you meant Jolene Tonra out of Brooks, OR because that's where "O" is from.
As far as encountering bad attitudes, you better get ready, because some of the rudest A-Holes you've ever encountered are in this industry, from other drivers on the road using their CB's to shippers & receivers.
I can't tell you how many times I've had to bite my tongue dealing with some obnoxious person working the guard shack to the dock. We're expected to exhibit a "professional attitude" out on the road representing the company, even when you feel like whoppin' some a $ s. -
Yeah scooter thanks for the heads up. Practically every member of my family from brother to uncle to cousin to father in law and brother in law are all truckers and they've told me all the stories.
