When I went solo I was asked about my time on my trainers truck, whether I was forced to drive fatigued or not, if I felt I had plenty of drive time and back practice, etc... The first day he drove, the 2nd day I drove about half the day, then each day after that he would go for a couple hours in morning and then I would usually go for 8-10 hrs. Every time had to back in at a dock or truck stop I was the one who always did it, or if we went by one of the yards I would practice skills course also. He made sure I understood and could operate Qualcomm and understood all HOS and procedures for the company. Yes there are trainers who only care about the money, but lucky I got one that actually cared up teaching the student to the best of his ability.

Sounds like you had a decent trainer skootertrashr6. You were a natural born truck driver :)

Well, I'm in Avenal, CA getting ready to head down to La Mirada for a delivery. January was a really good month for me and February is started off well too.

Just my .02 cents. Parking will come in time, your trainer should help you out with it, but basically it comes down to two things. the first is to focus on parking the trailer not the tractor. I know that doesn't sound right but one day when you throw that big ##### in a hole that you didn't think you could get it in, it'll dawn on you, that I made the trailer priority #1 and the tractor just followed. Second thing is you'll get plenty of practice when doing deliveries. I always had a problem with a tight 90 degree backing. So what I did to hone my skills at it was ALWAYS do it even if I could do a straight back or a 45 degree. You'll thank yourself for doing it that way. Its all about confidence and confidence only comes with time. Good Luck pal
