Whats up guys here goes another orientation story. Well ive been surfing these forums back n forth and i think i have all the info i need thnx to all of you guys that answer questions day by day and sometimes more then once. I feel like i know some of you guys even do i dont know you, Just by reading your personal stories and situations anyways Im exited and feel like this will be my new career i usto be a structural steel fitter/welder and i would always see those big, nice rigs rolling in and out delivering tons of steel and i would tell my self "man i wish i could drive one of those things" well here iam , i graduated truck school (southwest truck driver training)with good grades and on my second day i was driving that rig like ive been doing it for a while (of course we had to up shift down shift while we double clutch) but im a fast learner and i had it down within that second day. Ive read and uderstand the resposibility that comes behind the wheel, the long days/weeks spent alone, the little pay while i get experience i know what im getting into and my mind is set im ready to hit the road. My family understand the process , and i know i did a good decision by picking MAY to get my career started. Well ill be posting how MY orientation process goes through and if i have questions i appreciate your answers thnx...... BIG DOGG

Trucking as a career and vocation is like anything else in life. It's what you put into it and whether or not you can learn to work the system to your advantage. There is no panacea out there, you gotta put up with crap on some level no matter what you do or where you go in life.

It sounds like you have identified some key factors that make me think you will do just fine in this industry. The field is wide open and opportunities abound in this industry, especially after you put in your time and pay your dues.

    Good luck!

Best wishes with the reefer business. I did the reefer thing for many years and made a good living, later switched to tanker.

I figured you would go with System Transport, since you liked watching those flatbeds & they have that terminal in Phoenix.

    Keep us updated!

Thnx for the kind words scooter your one of the many guys i respect on this forum ..... And chinatown thats kinda the route I want to eventually take TANKERS yup have my hazmat/tanker endorsement ready but as we all know experience needs to take place first as for flatbed i didn't see to many company's that would hire students except for swift flatbed division and i said NO to that so ill stick it out with may (1 year is goal) and then ill hop on a skateboard or maybe even tanker

Melton truck lines takes people with just 3 months exp if you are really looking at going that route (flatbed) , so a few weeks after you're into the reefer thing and ya still want to try flatbed you could always check them out. either way yeah after that first year, lots more options open up

No, sorry I can't help you with that too much. Although, I'm pretty sure Swift does.
