Assuming they will rehire me that is. They were my first company out of school. I had called them last year before I went with my last company, and they sounded very interested and said I was eligible for rehire, although it never got past that point as I went elsewhere.

I liked them when I used to work for them. I am one of the people that love long haul trucking, so I'm not just doing it to pay the bills. May was good. I believe they had a couple things that weren't perfect, but not alot as a first trucking company goes.

My favorite thing about them was alot of cross country/long loads, with good scheduling. They gave you enough time to get them there, but didn't make you sit around all the time. I would like to know if they are still like that, in the reefer division.

I remember it being like for example:
Pickup in Seattle to Ohio 4-5 days to get there
    Ohio to Chicago
    Chicago to LA
    LA to Oregon
    Oregon to Atlanta

    Does that make sense?

What else should I ask, I'll be calling companies first thing next week, in hopes to set up an orientation for the following week, this week is my research week.

I don't need much home time, so that's not usually a problem.
    Are they using elogs?
What are you averaging for miles?
Easy to contact your dispatcher? Are they flexible with you to resolve issues?
How strict are they with logs and safety, I seem to remember they were pretty safety oriented.

Here's a biggy. What is orientation like? I will try to find some first hand accounts on this site, but I haven't found any yet? Is it a grueling process? Last time I was coming straight out of school, where this time I would assume I would be a solo right away.

Are they more of a solo company or do teams get most of the good loads.

I will think up more questions, I am sure.

Seems like I read somewhere that they slowed their trucks way down. Like slower than Prime trucks slow.

Go with a company that uses paper logs; Dynamic Transit.

If you really liked them to begin with why did you leave the first time? Not trying to be a smart ##### but hate to see you go back with them and then all the sudden the same issues come back to haunt you.

if you havent found first hand post of people going thru orientation you haven't looked very hard, theres a bunch on here ;)
that being said, how much time do you have in? May is fine... but its not really set up for experienced drivers, unless you just really like being told every single thing that you have to do and be micro managed.

I have two years. I left the first time, not because of any issues, I liked it, it was my first gig, so I wouldn't know any better, but I liked them alot. I left because a former girlfriend had to go to a new University and we had to move.

I guess I remember a couple things I didn't like, not huge though:

    No cruise with headlights on.

While I was there, the trucks got the gears governed slow, to optimise fuel economy, but the would not pull all the mountains May drove. I remeber driving through Iowa and everytime I hit the smallest hill the truck would slow way down. Very slow trucks. I think the top speed was normal. 64.

    No flexibility in fueling.

Not many drop and hooks, some very long loading times.

Being charged a couple times for idling in the heat. Having to always send in a request for overidle permission.

hmm...that's my list. Not a long list. Im hearing about this micromanged thing. What do you mean? I will look for orientation reports now.

Yea go with may if you enjoy being treated like a #######. The trucks are all worn out piles of ####. Planners plan trips at 60 mph with no wiggle room not even enough time to stop and piss. 11 western really means California oregon and Washington. If you are a trainer then life is good at may. If you do loose your mind and go with this ######## company defiantly go with flat rate pay because they are going to give you a pile of #### to drive and you will be in shop a lot. Ohhh ya may is a peach to work for. The very second I find another company I'm gone.

Okay. Then if you liked them I would check them out. I just started with Shaffer and have been great so far.
