Im a trailer driver

    Your concern is for good reson but im shure you could have asked for another trainer reson being is you felt you weren't redy and didn't want to endanger yours or anybody else life now your going to have to go trough the prosess ALL over again good luck to you

    Resigning isnt the best thing to do... they have more than one trainer i'm guessing? also how heavy was the load when she said to use the brakes?

    I appreciate your follow up. I can understand also.
    One of the worst things for any new driver is to be in a higher risk situation (grades, for one) then have conflicting instructions given by the trainer, as compared to what you knew from other drivers or other book/info training. Having total confidence in having a good trainer, and that trainer teaching correctly, is vital.
    I can see the trust was "out the window", in this case.

    Many trainers get "ticked off" and defensive if you even question their instructions. Those would be bad trainers.
    A great trainer would welcome you questioning their actions (to a certain point, tho);) , so that it "explains" the correct way, and it solves any misconceptions you may have had.

    I'm a little confused by this??? I don't know the situation but you may well have needed the brakes on a 6% grade. All depends on weight, and the length of the grade. I know if I'm grossed out, rolling down a 4 mile long 6% yea I'm going to need the brakes even with the Jake on to keep from putting an over speed in the motor. Unless I drop down into 11th or 12th (1st hole high side) 13/14 I'll have to tap them a couple times and I'm not coming down a grade above 7 direct (15th)PERIOD! get up in those top 2 gears and its about like coming down in Georgia overdrive (neutral).

    Your brakes are a supplement for the engine braking. Proper gearing is your first priority. You'll smoke one set of brakes, or hit a truck ramp once and that's it. I've misjudged hills before, the sooner you realize the mistake the better off you are, just remember an over speed in the motor is better than pulling that ##### out of gear and trying to drop one more. If you misjudge a hill and don't have enough rpm left to drop another gear DONT leave it in that gear Jake on high and use your brakes as needed to control you speed. You will try to drop that gear once and miss and if youre lucky you'll get it back in the hole you originally started in and make it to the bottom. If you're not you won't be able to tell us the story.

    You had a bad experience. I can't blame you for leaving if you didn't feel comfortable. I think you could've found another trainer though. 4000 miles ain't many as a team. 5500 is good 6000 is better and if you managed to hit 6500 repeatedly don't worry about your own truck stay with that trainer and team!!!

    Unfortunately I had solo out and taking another trainer was not an option for me I was told.

    krazychick this is just the beginning of your carreer.Your their to learn and listen to your trainer.You can't keep quitting everytime you feel you're right and trainer is wrong.Its like from the trainers point of view,why do you need me since you the trainee knows everything.Of course I was'nt there but it sounds like your trainer was in the right.Trainers have to know alittle bit of something to train otherwise they wouldn't train.Not saying she was perfect,many have a lot to be desired but trainers have to know something to get that position.

    That's the part I hate about these mini-megacarriers, as well as the full blown megacarriers.
    For them to decline giving you another trainer is inexcusable, as well as solo-ing out without proper training.

    But I do give them credit. It looks like they in the partying & "tie one on" top 40 hits, of trucking companies.
    Their "Controlled Substances and Alcohol" FMCSA score is a whopping 72.5% (only beaten by their own "Driver Fitness" score of 73.1%).
    I'll drink to that!!;)

    Trucking isn't for everybody sorry now you'll have to go to swift or Werner and do training/team for 3 months and that won't be fun , because nobody's going to hire you with one weeks worth experience, but i guess youll lern how to come down hills right . When i solo'd out every hill i hit was slow untill i got a routine ,its comen sense slow safe ,fast dangerous , you should just gone slow untill you got comfortable now i fly down these hills haha lol jk

    I understand that but every time I asked a question I was made to feel stupid and a lot and I mean a lot more happened, down to me being threatened because the trainer wanted to go home and it was my fault we may not make it because im to carefull on the curves with a 8000 lb load. No one was there but me all ill say is it was the worst 2 weeks of my life. All of that is over now I just need to find a new place to work. I was told I would be welcomed back I did nothing wrong. I did my first load and got it there on time. I went down hill used my breaks just like I was taught and I was flying down the hill ya I got.down but maybe I wont be so lucky next time.
