I think just about any driving test is by the book. Has to include atleast 2 right turns, a Rail-Road crossing, and a backing, and atleast 15 minutes behind the wheel.

Just make sure you use both mirrors, do not shift over train tracks, and get out and look before backing (some companies also want you to bump the horn before backing as well). Don't hit anything and you will be fine.

And as far as "double clutch vs. float" when shifting...you can ask the tester which they prefer (if any) before you even take off.

Don't let them 'trick' you with the seat belt....put yours on, and if they don't put theirs on right away, ask them to.

Trust me...they do NOT want you to fail...they need your can in their seat if they brought you there.

 

Easy peasy......no worries,they know you are a beginner,that's why they have trainers.
White Dog pretty much covered it,keep the truck between the lines going forward and don't hit anything backing and you'll do fine.

 

I started in Phoenix. I was first up, sent to get the tractor, full pretrip before moving it up to the building, next trainer got in have n me the trailer number. Went out stopped in front of the trailer lined up but still about 4 feet or so away.hooked air and trailer, then portrayed the trailer lowered landing gear because our was to high, hooked up and left.

About 20 minutes,a lot city, freeway back to the yard. It's a right turn into the driveway don't hit the curb anywhere. Backed it back into the spot where I pulled it out of (goal) and 4 ways there big on that.

Do not move the trick without seatbelts on both of you.

Several drivers failed it, curbs there are a very big deal.

 

Just drive. Don't be nervous. Get out and look and take a deep breath. I sat and watched a guy take 35 minutes to back in Phoenix and they didn't fail him so relax take your time and you'll be in your own truck in no time.

 

They have you do a figure 8 around 4 sets of cones in reverse. Pucker up.

 

Oh yea forgot to mention that lol

 

it's a cinch! did it on Tuesday and passed with no issues.

for Denver location
standard backing test. Drive through the cones to the simulated bridge w/ 13' height. stop before it, get out look to check height, drive under it, drive around the horseshoe with out hitting cones or concrete blocks, pull through the cones, do a straight back (honk your horn when you hit reverse), get it between the cones and in the box without hitting cones, then pull back through the cones, do a 45º backing into the next lane over, again between the cones and in the box (honk when you reverse). set your brakes when you're done. You can get out as many times as you need to without penalty, you can pull forward and reset as many times as you need to.

then you'll do the road test. Put your seatbelt on, check your gauges, adjust your seat, tell the fella in the passenger seat you're ready. 5 mph through the yard, stop at the gate (stop sign), then proceed. Don't run any stop signs, don't run any lights. don't hit any curbs or get into any accidents. Out the yard, to the light, stop, wait till green light, turn right, go to the highway, turn right, put your blinker on first, don't hit the curb!, get on the on ramp, and merge into traffic, take the I-25N exit, up to 56th, get off there, take a right, (use blinker and follow traffic signals), go to Washington, take another right, down to 50th st, take a right, go into the same gate you came out of AND STOP at the stop sign...you hardly notice it, but it's there. If you obeyed all traffic laws, didn't have an accident and didn't run a stop sign or hit a curb, you've passed. Oh and don;t forget to check your mirrors every 8 seconds during the road test.


no pretrip test, no airbrakes test. there's a take home test on log books, common sense, hazmat stuff (even though they don't handle any hazmat stuff) and some accident prep stuff. it's all EASY. dont sweat it.

If you're testing in Denver, be sure to read the road signs. Jared is a stickler for them and will quiz you on what signs you just passed.
