Hello everyone . I have a question . I just put my app in last night for May trucking . After hours of reseaching they seem to be the place to be .Tired of selling mortgages for the last 20 years and taking a piece of my soul lol . Time for a new chapter in my life . My question is I live in Fontana and I know May has a drop yard in fontana . Is there any benefit as far as getting an opportunity to stop by an visit my family just a bit more than the 2 days after every 2 to 3 weeks while waiting for a loadj ?

Means you get to shuttle their local runs

Bad miles coming off home time

But quick to get you home and expect you to come back on time. (No extra days off)

    Think this through.

    There are many trls nearby
    ....that need moved.

You come off home time on a Friday.... maybe you get a good run or sit on that shuttle till Monday if you get friendly with the dispatcher.

Border terminals can have some good runs. Any other terminal stay away. Just opinion.

I am not familiar with May and their policies... however, I do know with some companies as long as you do not go way out of route and do make your delivery and pick up times on time, and of course do not use up hours of your 14 hour clock.. it is possible...

However remember you only have 14 hours a day to get you 11 hours of driving in and earn a good paycheck... sk if you start your day at 6am you only have till 8pm to earn your money...

I run near my house often but dont stop in because it takes away from my paycheck..

I drove Western 11 for May for a while, out 2-4 weeks with 1 day hometime for every 7 out.
Keep in mind a day of hometime in trucking is 24 hrs from the time you go off duty.
It's not like a 9-5 job where you get off at 5:00 on Friday afternoon and go back at 9:00 Monday morning, that would be two days and 16 hrs off in trucking.
In trucking two days is 48hrs and after that you can be called back.

My "home yard" is Yolo. Occasionally, I will get a run that allows me to take my 10-hour break there (as it is sort of halfway between LA and Salem (Home Depot, Lowes).

When the stars are in alignment and this happens, you bet that I climb into my car, drive home and sleep in my own bed.

There are plenty of loads sitting at the May drop yards that are waiting for just the right time for a driver (with the right hours) to take them. Those loads sit and wait their turn. For whatever reason, they don't or shouldn't be delivered immediately. The Planners usually have loads with more pressing needs, and they juggle to keep the trucks moving.
