Melton is really good with their idle time. Most of their trucks have APU's on them so you don't have to idle your truck.I had one and when my APU went down my dispatcher had me idle my truck over night until I could get to a shop the next day.Melton does pay orientation pay plus they give you a 50.00 dollar card that you can use like an ATM card during orientation. 50.00 dollars is the limit on the card but you also get orientation pay. They have Detention pay and Layover pay. They try to get you by the house after orientation so you can get all the stuff for your truck.Try to grt a 6ft. steep ladder to put on your headache reck, they have a special place for it and you will need it sooner or later.BOYD is ok from what I hear from thier drivers but my own experience puts Melton way out front. Just one last helpful hint,I would'nt suggest WTI to anyone I did'nt want mad at me.GOOD LUCK and if you go with Melton then I'll probably see you out there somewhere.I'm going back to Melton. The grass is greener in their yards after all.

I keep seing ads for melton stating 2 months experience required. OK cool because I only have three or four months experience. So being that my experience is limited will I go out with a trainer? if so, for how long? I have never hauled a fladbed, not even an open tow behind trailer with a car. so, will they give me detailed training with chaining and everything that is required in flatbedding? also can someone please IN GREAT DETAIL tell me the orientation process from the start to finish.

You will not go out with a trainer. You will get minimal training on securing and tarping....they will go over it with you a couple times, but you don't get practice with it but once or twice. A lot of the stuff you learn first hand out on the open road. I had no flatbed experience when I started, but I did have enough common sense to figure out what needed to be done, or to ask for help if I couldn't. Don't be afraid to ask other drivers for help.

    Orientation--

    Drug test/physical.
    Paperwork
    Road test
    Paperwork
    Securement training
    Paperwork
    Tarping
    Paperwork

That's about what I had at mine.

they have autos and 13 speeds, but they are phasing those out. Last of the 13 speeds (mine is one of them, dangit) will (should) be off the road by end of August. Majority are 10spds.
