I have been asking a few drivers about them that are leasing their truck, one said he is on the old lease deal and does good, others have said the new lease deal is much tighter, but, thats about all I can tell you at this time.

I don't think Melton does heavy haul. Just regular flatbed. Or at least I don't recall ever seeing them doing OD and heavy.

For OD you might try Keen, PDQ or another company.

I believe there are some small fleet owners pulling for mercer which is also all oo company. Here is a number one idea, really good company Keen out of pa,don't know where you live but they are just heavy haulers. Ray bellew and sons out of houston,tx is also, they pay percentage,i drove for them for 5 yrs from 78 to 83,they are stilll in business, petes with cats, had a new pete to drive always there.if you call talk to lynn or ronnie or kenny, kenny is the son, tell them ###### yankee harry from me. referred you, they will take care of you. If I'm not allowed to say this okay,I will understand. I don't get a referrel just love those guys,Ray bellew is a great person.and his son kenny.I only came back to ma. and me. for missing my kids from divorce. Wish I was still there.

I was at their Tulsa terminal last friday evening...from all outward appearences everything looked great...the yard was clean and well manicured...all the new looking very clean trucks where parked in nice rows everywhere...the truck shop was clean and orderly...the inspection bays were the same...they had a well equipped wash bay and a covered securement area that where in two halves of the same building...I only talked to one driver there while he washed his truck, he hadnt been there but a few months but he seemed happy...said he had left Werner a few months earlier where he had some dispatch problems, too much sitting...anyway thats what I saw so if outward appearences count for anything two thumbs up...

I work for melton and appreciate the comment their. Yes our yard is sweet there in tulsa, fully equipped and all.

To the poster above we do haul oversize but not very often, ive been here 6 mos and have pulled 1 oversize load from laredo to miami. I see some of our other trucks every once in a while with oversize but yes were mainly regular flatbed freight.

Yes you do get breakdown pay - which is great, you have to keep your eye on it as it can get missed (not intentionally) As for the new truck thing, not quite true at least for us...we were parked and had another truck run into us, luckly we were in the truck and the other driver stopped. Long story short, we spent a week in a motel waiting for repairs to be done (just enought to get the truck legal) and yes we got breakdown/accident pay and the hotel was also paid, however Melton does all of its paint/repairs in Tulsa only, so we got loaded back to Tulsa.

We were told that that it will take approx. 3 days for the repairs to be done, but because the body shop is not open on the weekend that extends the wait to approx 5 days, so we asked for another truck (not a new one) so that we would not be down for yet another week - we were told that is was not possible to give us another truck at this time (there are currently a lot of empty trucks on the Tusla yard - so not sure the reason behinds this) and that as there is no recoveries to be done we are to wait it out in a motel until our truck is ready. Yes they will pay for the motel and downtime but we would rather be running. :yes2557:

All in all Melton is a good company with great equipment and nice terminals, the only downfall that I can see right now is that the freight is very slow. Perhaps they should quit hiring anymore drivers and concentrate on getting more freight. From what I have heard it appears to be pretty slow in the flatbed industry but I have been assured it will pick up..? hmmm only time will tell.
