Hopefully I get a good one, should I decide to go with Melton. AZ, how long have you been with Melton now? Ive read some of your past posts and noted that youve had some ups and downs while here. How has it been lately for you?

I think the trainers are really good guys. I also think that anyone that's been with Melton for any length of time are really good guys, and gals too. When I graduated orientation, I felt like I was part of a brotherhood and still feel that way. I do anything I can to help a fellow flatbedder where ever I may be. There is definitely a comradory in this industry no matter who you work for. I'm a Melton driver and I like being here.
If there is anything I can do to benefit Melton, then that's what I will do. I'm in it to win it, I feel that applies to who I work for as well.

I stay out for a month at a time then I'm home for a few days. I try to time it when my wife has an extra day off from her job. Then I take 3 days off. That's just me tho. I'm sure some folks prefer to be out longer and some out less. It also depends on where u live.

As far as I know we go that way quite often. I think u live in an area where u could be home every 2 weeks if u wanted. Not certain tho. Sometimes we do get loads that go by the house. It's nice to stop and have dinner with the wife. Get laundry done too. Just depends on the appointment too.

Burke, AZCannon and Noggin. Seeking your advice !! I'm in week three of my CDL Program and will be graduating soon. I have apps in at Boyd Brothers and Melton. From what I've seen both companies are fairly similar with Boyd granting more home time and starting mileage pay also slightly higher. It looks like the Melton Trucks are set up sweet both or doing the job and for comfort. I've also heard the training at Melton is superior and it appears to be a pretty efficiently run outfit. I've read many of the posts by all three of you and that is why I am seeking your advice/input. It's a tough choice and I'm vacillating back and forth with it. I am leaning towards Melton but was wondering if each of you had to start over at either of these two companies would you still picked Melton? Any input on the differences in two companies would be appreciated. Lastly, if I choose to go with Melton any tips on starting out on a good foot there?

BTW, AZCannon, I also lived in Phoenix, AZ for a very long time but we just relocated to Chattanooga, TN. I'm fortunate to have lived in two exceptional places.

I wish I could answer you better , I have never heard or seen anything about boyd that would make me want to work there. for me its things like how nice is the truck .... Kenworth to me is way better than Prostar's not everybody I am sure , our apu's and inverters are super comfortable , our trucks go 65 any slower and I can't do the job. I really don't know much about Boyd they may be great but nobody has ever mentioned them.

    AZCannon,

Thank You so much for the info. You hit my important points squarely on the head. I will be spending long hours in "Office" and I definitely want it to be comfortable both driving and during down time, and I want it to be functional. I'm a runner and fitness nut, so I really wanted a truck that had an inverter so I could install a Micro and Refrigerator, so I could have better control over my food intake. The Inverters is one of the key items that initially drew me to Melton.

By chance AZ do you have a Refrig and Micro in your truck. If so are there any that work/fit better then others or is it just a trip to Costco for what's available?

Lastly AZ what part of Phoenix do you hail from. I spent most of my time near 7th Street and Union Hill and worked over in Scottsdale.

Take Care and thanks for the info. Currently I am slated for orientation on the 28th of next month, but I will probably be moving that up because it looks like I may test out and graduate a little earlier.
