Can anyone give me a run down on any extras that most the trucks have? XM Radio, inverters, APU ect. Does the radio have aux out for MP3s players?

I could have sworn I read Melton provides a fridge but I can't seem to find any info anywhere. Is there any type of payment plan for extras? My Dad drives for Werner and he can buy things in their store (TV's GPS ect) and they take 50.00 a week from his pay check till it gets paid.

I was leaning heavy towards TMC untill Melton Recruiting sent me a email lots of nice benefits.

Stock CD deck with aux port and USB for plugging in ipod/mp3. USB will play and charge at the same time. Pretty nice. XM built in the deck but have to pay for it yourself of course. Tripak with 1500 watt inverter. No they do not provide a fridge. Only the million mile guys get that as an option on their custom built trucks. Yes they have a weekly payment deduction from your pay but the store is small. Mostly just hats, shirts, mugs and so forth plus some extra work supplies like bulk boxs of bungees, work jump suits. Nothing radical like prime like tools, fridge, bass can for your stereo, tvs, gps and crap like that. Melton ks a #### good place to work and you'll make a good wage there but your gonna work your arse off doing it because they tarp EVERYTHING! I had 3 no tarp loads in the year I was there. The trucks are nice but KW just isn't my cup of tea style wise and comfort wise because they are cramped. Excellent training program for flatbed. I still stick by their methods today as I have since gone on with other companies and now an O/O. Down side is the company snitches. They will play to be your friend but don't turn your back because if they see you cutting corners and not sticking to company policy, you will hear about it from personnel in Tulsa. If you get Tanya Haynes as your DM, then you've got it made if you run hard and show the respect she will hook you up!

I would avoid TMC. Go to Melton and over time you will get hit up by TMC drivers asking questions about Melton because of how crappy it is at TMC. Slow trucks, crappy miles. The black petes all chromed out is just a gimmick to draw you in. If I wanted to be a company driver again, that would be my place of choice but even so I can't because of a boo boo I made. And if you flatbed, don't be like some of these other dumbarses and throw your hooks. People get badly hurt like that and can't say how many have died from brain injury from it. Be smart.
Not sure what terminal your going to and how training is at other terminals but Birmingham is a flatbedders boot camp. If you can't survive the training, you won't make it on your own out on the road and training is for us was pure hell.

Thanks so much for the info Skunk. The email I got from recruiting says I will get 500 at the end of orientation that will help get me some goodies for on the road.

They must have changed it. Orientation was only $200 for us once it was complete.

I just double checked it's 200 at the end and 300 on first check, but that should still be before I get my own truck.

Your radio USB charged? Mine only plays off thumb drives.

No more XM built in to radio. They are now Bluetooth.

We do not tarp everything. We tarp probably 75-80%. Still a good percentage, just not as much as people think. I've had 4 no tarp loads in a row.

Snitches is right. Some will even watch you secure your entire load before coming over and telling you how you did it wrong, and make you redo it...instead of stopping you and explain how you're doing it incorrectly BEFORE you're done. There are a lot of good guys though that will help you.

Thumb drive is very cool as well I have Muve music on my phone and internet radio and like to be able to run it through my stereo. (FM modulator has awful sound to me)

What you mean by Bluetooth Noggin? Does the music play through phone by the bluetooth to the stereo? Do the newer ones still have XM built in? I have a extra XM setup anyway that's in my dump truck I drive now so not a huge deal on that but less messy if built in.

The videos and pics on the internet that shows the new KW 660's have a sweet looking built in touch screen with GPS, XM radio ect. I assume the Melton trucks don't have that?

I know these are minor things to a lot of drivers but I been a DJ\Producer my whole life music is very important to me. I'm sure eventually I'll have music on the outside to listen to when I tarp.

You can hook up your phone to the radio via bluetooth. Play files you have on phone thru radio....talk to people thru radio (bad background noise tho). I dont mess with the bluetooth anymore, just play my songs thru the usb drive or xm tbru aux port.

Ahh ok. Wonder when they started changing the CD decks over. Yea mine actually charged my Ipod touch. Didn't have to use a 12v cigarette lighter usb adapter like I have other trucks. As for tarping, you got lucky. I couldn't catch a break from tarping to save my life. More money in the bank though. Most of my loads consisted of U.S. Steel, Alcoa, Weyerhaeuser and Western Extrusions. The rest was random loads but mostly machines that had to be tarped. Never pulled shingles or anything of that nature.

Yeah to be honest I don't even consider coils in my 'tarp' count cuz they're so easy, done in 20 minutes.

I think the 12's or 13's were the first year of the new radio...I have a 13
