I am a Owner-Operator at a large tanker company, and I am going to update my equipment in the next 60 days and was curious about the "retired" Melton trucks. I would like the drivers over all opinion of the trucks, comfort, storage ect.... Also would like your opinion on economy and dependability if you have any, all input will be greatly appreciated. Also saw a couple of Melton Cascadia's and Century's, obviously the company prefers the 660's but any input on the freightliners will be appreciated also, thanks in advance for your time and input.

Drove a 2003 KW T600 that had 600,000+ miles on it in 2009. Has 1.2 million now and still going. Don`t know what was done before the boss bought it but the oil pan hasn`t been off since he bought it.Very well specd with a C15 Cat, 13 speed. Of course it IS a KW so that may be speaking more than who owned it.

I'm big on Freightliners and not sure about the Cascadia's but stay away from Meltons Century's. I looked at a couple when I worked there debating on buying and leasing on but several drivers said to stay away from them because they were junk. The ones I saw were autos. If a handful of guys tell me the same thing then that would be my cue to move on to finding something else.

You really won't find anymore centurys for sale...not very many at least. There might still be a couple hangin around, but majority of what will be sold now will be the 660's. Space wise, aside from the smaller cab area, I think the bunk of a 660 and a mid roof freightliner are about the same space wise. I drove a Century the first year at Melton, then switched to a 660, and really didnt notice a storage difference. I think Melton keeps them well maintained, in over 2 years I have never been in a shop for anything more than new batteries or a PM.

Here is what is currently available. Check back in frequently cuz they are pulling old trucks off the road several at a time...
