My husband currently works for Swift and has since August. He's looking at Melton because his latest check from Swift for 2680 miles is only going to be $292. We just can't live on that. We've researched Melton and he likes the sound of them. He's been out for 4 weeks at a time for Swift so the time out won't bother us.

I was wanting to get some ideas about Melton's pay compared to Swift's. Swift pays him .29 cpm and a recruiter with Melton told him he'd be started at .35 cpm so obviously he'll be making more per mile but would he still on average get about as many miles with Melton?

How much does Melton charge for the passenger insurance?

Since he started with Swift he's had 100% on-time loads, no accidents, and he's driven over 22,000 miles with 54 loads. We are both very frustrated with Swift because it seems like there's no point in him working there and trying his hardest for them to be broke.
I think the only thing that might prevent him from getting hired there is the employment history.

recruiter can answer the pass ins. questioon , miles are up and down 2700 one week 1300 the next and less on the weeks that you go home. Over the last year I have averaged 9000-9500 miles a month

Those seem like pretty good miles Azcannon. No, he's driving dry van but the physical aspect of hefting tarps, etc won't be a challenge to him. He's going to call them again today and I'll remind him to ask about the insurance cost. I'm not planning on riding with him until late spring anyway lol.

I am going there on monday and really looking forward to it. I have been talking to them for about 4 months just couldnt get the courage to jump ship. Finally did and really think melton is where I want to be based on following azcannon and noggin on here. I dont think it would be any worse than what he is already getting newtruckerswife. Keep us updated with what he decides and let us know how it goes.

I have been with Melton right at 3 months now and really enjoy it. All of my checks have been more than your last one from Swift. As Azcannon said, the milage varies from week to week but I've been pretty consistent at about 1800-2000. The learning curve was pretty steep for me since I had minimal driving experience (got to go without a trainer), but every other Melton driver I have met has been more than willing to help or offer advice if asked. My first DM was super, but just took another position. My current DM seems to be outstanding, too, given some of the mess ups this week, all out of my control. Maintenance has been helpful with my sometimes stupid questions and safety has been pretty easy to deal with. After hours, for the most part, seems to have their stuff together, too. All in all, I am happy. Got home time exactly as I requested on the first one (out 6 wks) and this one we will see with the holiday and being out 8 wks. Going to try a couple of shorter times out and see what happens.

I am starting out with Melton as my first OTR job. I come from a research & delvelopment career that I have been doing for about 12 years so I did a lot of research before I picked my first company to go with. As far as I can tell and read that Melton is a above average company compaired to swift, Stevens, transam. Just my two cents.

I have a question. The math does not add up. Is your husband getting extra withheld or is there something coming out. The straight math would put him at over 700 on the mileage your showing. For him to bring home only 240 is concerning to me. I am getting into the industry and have concerns about the "money" these recruiters are throwing around. Swift being one of the people I have talked to.
