Orientation w Melton March 2014 (Tulsa, OK)

Hello everyone!

I finished training and got my own truck!! I'm on my first load as I type, shut down for the night and found a spot this late.

My truck has little more than 60k miles on it... Not bad if I say so myself! Everything is in good condition, rides smoothly! I'm very excited to be finished with training and off on my own.

After training they have you take two short quizzes and you grade your trainer. It's all very quick. Then they had me get some tarps, they are 'reconditioned' and after a few months if you show you can take care of them, they said I can ask for brand new tarps. Gave me an equipment check list to make sure everything is on the truck that you are supposed to have.

You also check out the truck, write down any damage you see so you don't get charged for it later down the road.

My trainer gave me lots of tips and advice. He gave me his number and said to call if I ever need help. Nice guy, I'm glad this experience worked out. I know alot of people probably quit because of how they are being trained. It helps to understand where both people are coming from. Also helps if they are patient... Key element to learning / teaching.

As far as shifting goes, my trainer had me double clutch until I was comfortable with the gears. Then I was taught how to float. Definitely simplifies the process!


They are changing orientation from 4 to 8 days. Can't remember if I wrote that here. You get paid for it anyway... So I don't see a problem with that.

My pay each week while on my trainers truck was $490. More than a few companies I checked out. Thought I would throw that info out, we all know pay is important aspect of being on the road.
