    The money is decent. The best time for you to get to the west coast is when you come off hometime. They'll probably have you deadhead to Laredo. If you get on the good side of the Laredo people you can usually lobby for a west coast load. (In my experience the Laredo people are the nicest.)

    I quit Melton a couple weeks ago. For me there was no real incentive (money) to stay out weeks at a time when other companies will get you home most weekends. I am waiting to hear back from a company that hauls sand in the oil field. They want a year experience I have half if their insurance company takes me I'll go with them. If not another oil field company has hired me I just have to pee and set up orientation. They both pay % and $25 an hour detention. I do not have anything bad to say about Melton, but was tired of weeks away from home for $1000 when I can make that and be home. Anyways good luck.

    Shoot. Skipped forward to the end to ask a question, and saw you quit. Thank you for the blog, I've been looking at Melton. Hopefully you don't mind another question. You said some days you got sent home early or stayed longer on home time, and it didn't take from your saved up days. But when did they let you know your first dispatch from home? Did you go into hometime knowing you had an extra day, or did you sit around not knowing what time you had to leave?

    Don't mean to hijack that question, but here's how it works for me.

    I deliver my hometime load and go home. My DM sends me a message with a date and time that I need to be "on board".

    At that date and time, I go out to my truck and send my "on board" message. From what I've heard, they will not plan a load for us until we send in our "on board" commitment.

    After you send it in, it's a waiting game. I go back in the house and wait, check for a load every hour or so. Sometimes I'll get one ready to pick up immediately, and sometimes I'll get info to pick a load up the next day.

    There has been one time where I was called on home time and asked to go pick up a load and return home with it If I wanted to, which I did.

    Negative. My dm calls me day before I'm due back out says I have this load set up for you I'm gonna shoot the info to your truck so you are ready to go in morning it picks up at this time and this far away.

    Wish my DM did it like that! The way mine does it leaves me with an entire wasted day waiting to find out if I'm working or not.

    my dm tells me be at truck @ so and so time and ill get you something within hour of you sending onboard
    each time ive sent on board, i got preplan within 30 mins, picking up about 6 miles away from where i park, usually 8-9am pickup
