I went from Phoenix to the Sunnyvale yard by bus. 26 hours. Never again, and I mean never. If a company wants to hire me, they can pay for a plane ticket or a rental car.

Dam, 26 hrs...that's insane lol...don't think I could handle that either. One thing I've learned is that most of these car rental companies charge a drop off fee for 1 way rentals and they ain't cheep.
Avis looks like they don't but I have to check into it more. -
I've rented cars one way coming out of Florida for $9.00 a day ...now i need one going in to Florida cheapest one i found is enterprise $179.00 a day. Avis $258.00 a day hertz has noting.... 179 still beat the hell out of greyhound

I was looking for a rental, one way from Dallas and it was actually cheaper to fly. Cheapest car I found was like $450 and cheapest flight was 300.

Enterprise by me wants $229 just for the drop off fee...I'm still checking places out.

Haggle, I got mine cheaper cause the enterprise by my house needed a sub compact desperately, my 6'4 240 pound but had to cram into a yaris hatch but was cheaper. Was basically driving from back seat and thought I'd need jaws of life. Talk to them and see, doesn't hurt.
Gr8Dane Thanks this. -
Thanks jsprocket, I'll give that a try.
Safe travels -
Well, after doing a lot of checking around I got a good price from Avis for $135.50. Next best 1 was Hurtz for $155. Today was my last day of CDL school and monday I take my test. Looking forward to getting it done and getting to work.
The 4 weeks of school went by fast. I had a great instructor who had 27 yrs of OTR experiance. He was firm in his teaching yet very fair plus a great sense of humor. I know this was just the tip of the iceberg and the real training is done once you get with your trainer then otr. I've always wanted to drive a truck since I was a kid ( a 3 axle dump truck doesn't count IMO lol)..always liked truckers. I now have a new respect for them after just the few things I've learned.
Hope everyone has safe a weekend! -
Sounds great. I was excited after school was over then when I passed I was even more excited.
I've learned a lot in the small amount of time I've been on the road. I've gotten a hell of a lot better backing in too, haha. Those vans are easy compared to the split axle. Took me a little bit to get used to. My trainer would make fun of me for it, if only he could see me now. -
Hey guys
If I may ask one question that I think would apply to everyone going to melton...Are you allowed to take your home time anywhere where there is freight going and with proper notice or do you have to take your home time wherever it is that you declare your home state/city to be?
Thank you
