Just a quick question... Say your at a shipper/receiver, it takes 8 hours to get loaded/unloaded, could you just pull up and park and take a two hour break and that would count as your 10hr?

First off as some of you know I have been researching companies for a LONG time now and Millis was definitely on the top of my list for many reasons. I applied last Thursday morning and got a call from Alice today confirming I had been accepted. I currently work in a factory from 11p-7a, We are WAY over micro-managed there and its time for me to move on. I have contacted my landlord about breaking my lease and she was very cool with it, I just have to give a 60 day notice. I do not have a start date yet because I'm not starting until the end of June or the beginning of July BUT I will be there. I am so excited I cannot wait to get behind the wheel. This thread will probably be slow going, at first but once the time gets closer I will try to post every day. Thank you to Baritone and some other key people in the Millis thread for making my mind up on what company to choose.
Way to go indianaEMT, I am excited for you! I trying to get everything sorted out so I can start in June when you do. How did you break your lease? I know my lease isn't up until December. I live in an apartment community and I don't have or think I have a landlord other than the lady in the leasing office that I signed my lease to. I would also like to get out of my lease to move my things into storage so I can save 500 a month from rent. Hopefully I will see you June 11th.

You would just have to go talk to her and tell her that you have an opportunity for a job out of state and would like to know if there is any way you could work with them to break your lease and help get it rented again. Keep us updated on how it goes, it would be cool if you could start with me. **Also ask them about subleasing your apt.

I will see if I can break the lease and if not I will ask about subleasing. Hopefully it will work. Starting class together would be pretty cool. I'll check back in tell about it.

Under the new rules you have to be in your sleeper berth for those 8 consecutive hours, but you can be in the passenger seat for the other 2 hours.

So I assume you could pull up to the dock and go into the sleeper during the time they are loading you. and log that time on your log books. Also can you take a 10 hr break anytime to restart your clock?

Also avj1987 if you go to the millis website and fill out the app, then give them a call in a day or two if you don't hear anything from them. Once they accept your application your approved for 6 months. This will get you in the door and you can then find out about your apt. You have to pay $100 to hold your spot in a class when you find out when you can come though.

First one Yes. My brother hauls reefers for Navajo and does that all the time.

Second one, probably not. If you've been on duty driving for 8 hours and the shipper/receiver is 2 hours away, but you decide to shut down early, your company might not appreciate that too much.

I got your message and wrote you back. I am filling in the application on the Millis site now. That would work, either way I could start class whether or not I am able to break the lease.
