I parked last night at a pilot. I normally turn my key to accessory so I can listen to the radio. I had my cell phone plugged into my inverter. I woke up this morning and the truck is dead, will not start. When I had my "b" service they put two new batteries in. This isn't normal is it? I what all do you run in your truck while down for your 10 hr break?

Cooler, gps's, phones, tablets. They all stay plugged in and running but without the acc on. However, not too long ago I darted into the pilot and left the truck on, when the auto idle cut the truck off, it wouldn't start back up. Dead in the fuel aisle. Breakdown sent someone to charge the batteries up and off we went, when I stopped four hours later I made sure I unplugged everything and shut the truck off....guess what? Truck wouldn't start. It wasn't an issue with the power drain at all, it was the batteries. Maybe yours need to be swapped out. I hadn't thought that could be our issue as our truck is a brand new pete, maybe had 1000 miles on it.

I usually only have my cell phone plugged into the socket by the bunk. and the bunk heater on when it is cold. I think it is because you left the key to acc.

It could be a bad starter. If lights, etc come on, but the starter won't turn over then it is usually the starter. Starters can have a burned out spot on them where they turn over great sometimes, and other times not at all. If your lights don't come on because the battery is dead, you probably have a short in the system that drains them when "acc" is on.

When they did your service, it sounds like they should have put in four new batteries, not just two.

Even one weak battery out of a set of four can cause you grief with the electrical / charging system in the truck.

Make sure the posts and terminals are clean, else you will not get a good charge back to the batteries. Also the ground to the frame needs to be metal on metal - meaning it should be cleaned also.

    robr Thanks this.

It's possible you got a bad (new) battery.
All it takes is one to take down the group.

If you're completely dead, (no lights) - one of those batteries can't hold a charge.
    It happens.
