In otr, when you test out into your own truck they pair you with a dispatcher who works with you the first few months while you are learning on your own. He will then pair you with a permanent dispatcher based on how you run.
We don't have that in regional so if you go straight to regional the learning curve is very steep! I've seen it bite several new drivers in the rear! So be forewarned!

PowderBlue Thanks this.

L.B. would you say its feasible to work a weekend here and there to help make up for the difference if money became a concern? Sounds like the opportunity to work an occasional weekend if needed would be a good thing with the advantage of being home on most weekends? Sorry for the million questions but you can never know too much

Also the Idol bonuses for running over 9000 miles a month, regional guys may not see that either, the smaller quarterly and year end bonuses adds up to about half what otr makes. -
On straight pay so my bonuses are smaller because it's a different pay scale. I hit 10,000 miles every month and u get my idle bonus except in the summer. As of the beginning of Dec I had over 105,000 miles according to my pay stub. I'm figuring 115,000 for the year but dec has two short weeks for me do I'll have to wait and see. I think I either hit or came close to $50,000 before taxes this year. That would include bonuses. -
To add to that I hit my milage bonus for 2000 miles every week except when I take a long weekend. Even hit 2500 a few times this past year.

Taxes, a different region like you said, I don't know? I just know myself and most others that swithched are bringing home much less. Maybe half is excessive but not by much.
