Just wanted to say thanks to Baritone, Tatersalad ,nicknack, jlccaa, Old School and Truck It for their replies to my questions. I actually could not agree with you more on not to proceed with trucking if she has that many concerns before I even start .We did speak about it again briefly on the phone again last night and she may be warming up a bit to the idea ( just a little bit). I'm certainly not going to force her into this as I do want this to be a mutual thing , all I wanted to do was to get some answers from guys such as ...I don't have to be out on the road 4-6 wks at a time as she thought I would have to be BUT instead I can tell dispatch I would like to be out 2 ( maybe 3 wks max) at a time instead and NOT out any less then 2 wks as some of you said since that would cut into my miles/paycheck. So I believe with answers like this she has warmed up ever so slightly but only time will tell.

As I told her on the phone last night, if she were to think about it we rarely see each other that much now. Don't get the wrong idea guys, we have a great marriage and all, I just work the extra to help pay off some bills not to avoid each other...LoL. I currently do Security work at a chemical plant on 2nd shift Mon - Fri anywhere from 40 - 48 hrs. a wk there. Then I also cover various other sights for my security company covering call offs and whatever's Mon -Fri for maybe another 7-14 hrs.( Not every wk) and then most Saturdays I work a 12 hr. shift at another site for them. So I work anywhere from 52 - 70 hrs. in 6 days w/Sunday's off. That is usually the only day we see each other because during the week she is sleeping when I get home at 11:30 pm , I'm sleeping when she gets up at 6 am to get ready and leave for her job, and she's at work when I go to mine at 3pm. So the majority of our conversations are done via the cell phone. She did agree to all of this BUT as I know it would not be the same as if I were here. Even with working all the hours I do, if an emergency did come up or something with the grandkids she knew I would be a phone call away and minutes from home rather then hundreds of miles. I would have to make sure that our son and daughter would be there as support while I was gone if she needed it.

Well guys, I guess that's enough for now, I hope I didn't bore you too much. If I have any more questions and I will send them your way.

Again, thanks for your replies and if you have any more thoughts bring em on. In the meantime I will keep looking at all the threads and see what I can learn.

    Be safe out there!

I completely agree with whats been said. If you love her stay home, however. I have a friend who goes home every other weekend OTR lives in a good area ST Louis and still makes out very well. I could see that being possible in Cincy as well.

Exactly, and I know cinci is a big freight area for us with the Trenton terminal there close. I live in TN off 65 which is another freight lane for us. Occasionally you get a load through the area with time to stop like I have now. I loaded in effingham il yesterday and ill deliver in Elloree Sc on monday evening. So ill have time at home til Monday morning. My dispatcher asked me yesterday before he sent the load if I wanted a weekend by the house. Dispatch takes pretty good care of us and they understand its rough being away from family for extended periods.

Looking for answers on when it is best to attend MTI.... before winter sets in or wait till the end of winter /beginning of next spring? As a wannabe I see advantages to both but you all would know best.... with one you are starting out in warmer months and gaining the experience before winter weather sets in. The other you would be training at MTI and out on the road with your trainer during the winter and thus possibly picking up on your trainers knowledge and any tips he would have for driving in the snow or ice.

I also understand that freight is slower during the winter so does Millis even hire on during those months?

Go now, get in some winter driving time while under your trainer and also get a guaranteed training pay during the slower winter months usually the end of January thru February are the slowest

I somewhat agree with Slim, getting experience in winter driving is a great thing. Many dont and it can come back to bite you in the..... well you know! However, understand that when/if the truck is sitting it can cause the student a decrease in pay if they do not drive 4 hrs that day. Just being honest!

No way she would be going with me Buckeye unless she was on vacation and road with me for a week or so.. She has a fulltime job of her own.
