Congratulations to those who passed the first phase. It gets both harder and better. Expect to make mistakes but try to anticipate them also. Take your time and dont get into a rush. Practice trip planning while waiting on a trainer. Ask for help if you need it. Message me if you want. I'm always willing to help if i can.

Sorry to hear that. Keeping both jobs will not be an option for me. I am confident I'll be able to learn the skills it takes to drive.. Just going to push all my chips into the middle of the table and go ALL IN.

Congrats on making it through. Post when you can, once you have your trainer and are out on the road.

I am all in. All my eggs are in one basket. Cartersville 9 June and the journey starts. #### I hope I can park a truck. I am pretty good with a boat on a trailer...Never tried 73ft of trailer behind my pick up. Keep us updated!!

Actually no. They sent one guy home on tuesday i believe. Couldnt park after week and a half. They gave him extra time too.
That's one thing guys, don't quit your jobs right away when you are starting your training here, if you can. About 10% -20% of students will not learn how to handle a 72ft truck on the road and how to back it up in a few days. And that's literally all the time they have to teach you. They call it a crash course for a reason.some people just need more time, and some are just not born for it i guess. Don't mean to scare anybody...but it is a fast pace class and they simply don't have any extra time to spend it on you.
I did make it through the parking. Friday we got our uniforms and booklets. Monday is a drug test and orientation ends on wednesday. Then waiting on my trainer to call me...and i should be on the road.....pretty excited.[/QUOTE]JUST curious, what was the hard part of Parking that the student didnt get?

Ga Dawg, backing is the most complicated part of driving a truck. It takes time to learn and forever to master. In class you have to learn to do a site side parralel park, a blind side parralel park, a straight back, alley dock, and offset back, I also had to serpentine back...The vehicle has three points of importance. The steer tires, the pivot point (Kingpin) and the rear tandems. The biggest problem I had was in remembering that the trailer goes in the opposite direction of your turn and my biggest mistake was in not anticipating the reaction time of the trailer...Your tandem placement changes the reaction time of the rear of your trailer, however, as a general rule, it takes 8 feet for the end of your trailer to react to your movements, and because of that most new drivers/students, over steer and over correct meaning they never hit the hole...and in a parking lot, hit everything else but the hole. Backing a 53 foot trailer is a LOT different than backing a small 8-10 foot trailer. Some people just can't get the mechanics of it down.

The more experience you have backing when you go into class the better off you will be. There are a limited number of instructors and a limited number of trucks and a limited amount of space on the range, so all of that has to be split among the students. The larger the class the less each person has to work on the maneauvers. So pray for a small class.
