I'm really rather excited about the opportunity to try to get my CDL and work for Millis. I'm in the June 9th class. I'm really trying to be cautiously optimistic, lest I go overboard and still end up being one of those guys who gets kicked out because he can't learn to back a truck or something.

I'm going part time as a dispatcher for an ambulance service in Marietta, GA. I am fortunate that I am well-liked there, because my supervisor told me in no uncertain terms that he would rather I fail at Millis because my crews love me. Still, I've wanted to be a trucker for a long time and I really hope I succeed.

Did I mention that June 9th is also my birthday? I suppose I just did.

I know I've seen a few people here in the Millis sub-forum that are gonna be in that class too. Maybe we could all use this thread as our training diary. If not, I'll be glad to document it on my own. ^_^

I moved from the July 7th class to the June 9th class because there was an opening. I guess I should thank TruckWnnaB! Looking forward to meeting everyone!

You guys will do fine. It is normal to be nervous, you are embarking on a new career, moving into uncharted territory, and essentially you have to learn to drive all over again, double clutching, downshifting, backing, and turning will be whole new experiences, but just take your time, think about what you are doing, listen and watch what others do right...and what they do wrong. Lean on your instructors and ask questions. School is challenging, the 15000 miles with a trainer is challenging, adapting to a trucking lifestyle is challenging, but in the end its all worth it and you will be started on a career that can carry you tgo the finish, whether that is with Millis or somewhere else. You have chosen a great company to start with. If ya'll need any advice, or encouragement, just message me. I check in here often, even if I don't post.

Hey Finalsomnia, I finally got moved back to GA, and applied for the school. They said I should hear from them by next Thursday; right now they're verifying my employment history. Looks like I probably won't be in the June 9 class, as I suspected. How long did it take them to get back with you from the time you submitted your application?

I called them back a couple of times that week. It took them a bit to verify one of my employers (a Kmart that closed since I had worked there). I put the application in on Sunday, and I heard back on Thursday.

Hopefully I hear back soon, all my employers are still up and running as far as I know.
