Thanks Trainwreck40. And congrats on finishing up. What do you think is more challenging, the academy or your time with a trainer?

thanks, I would have to say the training part is more challenging because that is where you really learn most everything and you spend so much more time at it. It has so many more aspects to it. In the school part you basically get familiar with the basics of driving and all the rules involved but most of the class part is common sense. I will say operating the truck was much more difficult then I had assumed it would be, as far as shifting and double clutching. I am still fine tuning that part after 5 weeks of training. Backing seems to be a difficult thing for some to grasp as well but was not too bad for me because I have had years of experience backing up trailers from my previous occupation. I have been lucky because I got a good trainer that is easy going and easy to get along with, but I have heard some horror stories. Overall I would say the training has been more challenging overall but also much more hands on and more rewarding as you dont have to watch any more boring videos and get more of a real world perspective on the job.

Bill is on vacation this week... We have a fill in
josepholson Thanks this. -
Well Tomorrow is Day One.
I talked to Alice and she said there are 8 students lined up. I can't wait meet everyone and see how things go.
I finally got my plastic Permit in the mail. It took long enough.
I'm on 3 weeks vacation from my current job. A week into training I'll have to call (or email) and give my 2 week notice where I work. They won't be happy of course, but I'm not technically doing anything wrong. I needed my vacation time to help cover my time in school, because I can't afford to be without a paycheck for a month. Also, with 8 students to place, I might have a wait to find a trainer (Especially because I want a non-smoker).
I'm a little nervous about tomorrow. Not so much for learning to drive the Rig (although at times I'm sure I'll pull my hair out) but because it's just such a big life change. I'll have to adjust to a whole new way of life. I feel I'm up for it, but I also know I can't foresee exactly how things will be. The Unknown is always a scary thing.
I'm more worried about my 6 weeks with a trainer than my schooling. I'm a very friendly, laid back, decent person. I take my learning very seriously, but I also am light hearted, jovial and positive. So, I hope I'm not paired with a super negative, condescending type. I'm sure it will be fine (It's only 6 weeks). I can't wait to soak up all the information I can.
First things first. School beckons. Time to get the show on the road. -
You will do fine. Harold is an awesome dude and most trainers are pretty decent. Mine was a smoker. That kinda sucked bad but I figured what the hell...I didn't want to wait.
josepholson Thanks this. -
Once that day is over the nerves will settle. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders and a
good grip on things. Again, you will do fine!josepholson Thanks this.
