Well that was quick. I sent my app in last Fri. @ 1700 , Alice calls me @ 0930 this morning with a couple of questions then told me to call her back Wednesday to find out the status of my app. One hour later phone rings and its Alice telling me that I was accepted. Whew...that's quick turn around. Now the fun begins. I must admit that after a year of wanting to make the move into trucking and now that it is here with about a 1 1/2 months to go has this 52 yr old a bit nervous. There's a lot to do around the house before leaving and so much to learn. Not to worried about doing the 3 permit tests as I am about learning the pre trip's but I am determined to make this happen. I know i have seen some of the answers to my next questions somewhere on the Millis forum but can't seem to find them. Any suggestions or tips from anyone would be appreciated especially anyone from Ohio that has went through Trenton and familiar with Ohio CDL testing.

    • Any items besides what Millis has on the paper to bring to the 1st 3 weeks of class
    • Do they train just Mon-Fri or on the weekends also
    • I assume there will be some night training
    • Should I just take the 3 tests above for the CDL permit or should I get more endorsements
    • Is there any one video online about pre trips that is better then others
    • Any suggestions on what rain gear to bring to class
    • If its still hot out do we wear jeans or shorts for class

    Well that's it for now.

Just wanted to wish you luck with your new adventure! Contrary to what you hear, Butler County people aren't that bad lol.... ( Take it from Hamilton native)

I pass Millis trucks daily coming out of Trenton. I go to a gravel pit there and Millis trucks are always at the intersection of Liberty Fairfield Rd. & Rt. 4. The super singles always make me look as they look like the tractor and trailer are swallowing them.

Not sure about their procedures but I went through Napier School in Hamilton and there was no night training. Napier had a DVD for the pre trips that the state examiner had them make up. He said if the students memorize the DVD then they will hit enough points and still have time left over. It was word for word what the examiner wanted to hear. Call Napier and ask Carla or Aimee if they will sell you one. It was $5 when I went through less than 5yrs ago. Not one Ohio student failed the pre trip out of my class.

Good luck. You will do fine. From what I have read here Millis is one of the better majors to go with.

Yes, get all of the endorsements you can get. It will come in handy if you don't stay long term with Millis.

The $500 is not much of a problem for me but trying to figure out how to pay the bills at home through all of the training is making me scratch my head. From what I understand it should be 5 weeks from the time we start classes till we see our first check , which as small as it will be is still better then nothing. Will just have to find a way to work it out with my wife and daughter who also lives at our house with her 3 children

Thanks for the info Matt. Have you seen any pre trips online which compare to the one you mentioned from Napier? How much are each of the endorsement tests? I need to watch every penny right now so I may just get what is needed for the moment then later down the road take the others when money is not so tight.

I understand about the endorsement cost. If I remember correctly they are not that much. But like you said every penny counts right now. The only thing is, when you get on with Millis your mind will be wrapped tight for a few months and the endorsement might just slip into oblivion. If you can get them now I would highly suggest it. It looks so much better with those endorsement on your DL.
