I am seeking to leave my current company Tyson. Tyson starts you off with 40 cents a mile with experience and getting 3000-3300 weekly, then about 3 months in you are slowly dropped to 2000-2500 weekly. They justify this by saying they cant help the long layovers at their own plants. Their excuses are not logical at all to me, but since I wont take the time to figure it. The health insurance for my family of 3 is $38 plus $8 dental weekly under bcbs of arkansas, so the cost and coverage limits are a great deal. But with the constant drops in miles for the last 3 months, my family and I cant afford to stay here. I am looking for a company with great pay, capability to have 3,000 miles or more weekly, great health insurance cost/coverage, and that actually cares about their employees in every way. I cannot take more of the sitting for a whole day waiting for paperwork or a load to be finished when the plant has sent the load to dispatch as ready, then there is no logical reasoning for why it was done in the first place.

I have read your website, other trucker blogs, and there was nothing negative there.
I would like to know if you all could be so kind to share your miles weekly on good weeks, slow weeks, home time, and breakdown weeks please. Also if you can explain what is the better pay plan to sign up for also. How long is the orientation and the exact pay for experienced drivers? I live in Dallas,Texas and read somewhere that there is a terminal near. Also what is your home time policy? I like to stay out a month at a time because I like to stay home 4 to 5 days. This is the best way to make more money 3 weeks out of the month and only get one small check a month in my opinion. What is the holiday and vacation pay like? What is the rule on coming home for holidays? I do not mind working any holidays, but I would love to be home at least for Thanksgiving or Christmas if possible.

Millis is always advertising on many websites and I figured without too many negative reviews out there, I have to look into them. At this point financially with Tyson, I feel like any company that gives plenty of miles is worth it as long as they are not paying less than 35 cents a mile in my opinion. Feel free to share with me any of your personal experiences that you feel that may help me out in the long run also. Any very honest positive and negative details would be greatly appreciated!

Also can someone share with me what mph are your trucks governed at exactly?Tyson is at 70 mph currently

    Thanks in advance!

From what I understand, Tyson Foods has a reputation of being one of the best places in all of the United States of America that an OTR truck driver could possibly work for.

If I had a CDL and were a truck driver, I would absolutely positively be ecstatic about working for Tyson Foods hauling beef, poultry, pork, lamb, and frozen foods OTR to all 48 states.

The grass is NOT always greener on the other side.
You may want to continue to stay on with Tyson Foods. Your decrease in miles could be a temporary slump that may be picked back up again. Going through the forum, you may be hard pressed to find any trucking company that is equal to or exceeds Tyson Foods.

    NOTE:

    1) You mentioned that your mileage has dropped to 2000 to 2500 miles a week at 40 cents a mile. That is still $800 to $1000 a week plus your low cost health insurance benefits, along with your retirement benefits.

    2) There are a lot of OTR drivers, married with children, who do NOT earn the money that you are earning, driving many MORE miles than you are driving.

    3) Also, there are a lot of homeless people, along with minimum wage to low wage income workers, (other than truck drivers), who would be more than happy to trade places with you. Be thankful for what you currently have!!

You can stay out a month at a time get 4.5 days off. Terminal in Burleson TX. Apparently the guy above me thinks 800-1000 a week gross is good. That's what my lowest bring home checks are with Millis. Insurance I don't have it, but I know it's not the best out there.

$800 to $1000 a week gross is excellent when one's gross is LESS than $400 a week, before getting any overtime and/or commissions, which is often hard to come by.

You are EXTREMELY FORTUNATE to be taking home $800 to $1000 a week or more. MORE POWER TO YOU!!

God bless you and your entire family! God bless the U.S.A.!

Not everyone gets 3000 miles a week...dispatch can have bff issues. The insurance sucks ###, period. Sitting in docks is common. I spent 9 hours in a dock in Buffalo and didn't make a penny on it. I also spent 3 days laying over in Pittsburgh for a weekend and had to fight to get my $40 a day layover pay. Millis is a starter company now with focus on training new students. trainers do get preferred miles and a lot of the posts you see are from them. If you look, there are plenty of negative posts about Millis on here.

I am not sure in what world that take home pay that is normally $1000-$1100 weekly and it drops to $700 weekly for almost 2 months straight alright/ I know there are some companies that do not pay this much, but when you have bills based off of the higher pay, then the low mileage isnt acceptable in my opinion. But I always say to each of one person's own view when it comes to what they will accept financially for their family. Not to sound like I am better than anyone, but I made $700 a week on a constant basis when I started trucking and I will not accept it now that I have plenty of experience. Thanks for all of the feedback on Millis. I have a company that I am leaning towards that actually pays more than Tyson and with guaranteed pay that I plan to speak to in the next hour. I just wanted a plan b,c,and d just in case this company doesnt work out.

    Thanks everyone!
