I just paid the $100 to reserve myself a place in the Eden class starting December 8th. With Christmas and New Years being in the middle of the week, it will likely be the beginning of January before school finishes and I head out with a trainer.

Ive got to send them a copy of my DOT physical long form since I got it back in April. It's good for two years, but they may want me to get another DOT physical since its not as recent as most other students. I'm gonna have to make sure they know the weight it has me listed at isn't what I weigh now. I'm fearful they may change their mind when they see it. Ive lost over 40 pounds since then and plan to be another 30 down by the time I head out with a trainer in January. My regular doctor gave me the DOT physical and has been keeping up with my weight loss. Im probably one of the few planning to go into OTR trucking and expecting to lose weight; approximately 125 pounds more from where I plan to be in January. This move is all part of a major overhaul of my life. New body and a new career.

I want to thank everyone who has posted their experiences with Millis. I have found so much useful information on here. If anybody here is a trainer with Millis, I have a couple of questions specific for you. I know about baritone and stevenneil but I don't think they have been on here in a while.

I'm excited on the inside. I'm almost afraid to get too excited about anything though. I got a job back in August driving a class B CO2 tanker truck. I worked there for a month and loved it. Told all my friends and family about my new job and how much I enjoyed it. Long story short, after a month on the job, new drivers go to the company headquarters in Florida for a week of training which is split between safety training and becoming familiar with the companies CO2 systems and trouble shooting them. While down there, corporate discovered I didn't have a year of experience on my CDL. I didn't know that was an issue and I certainly hadn't kept it a secret; not to mention I had already been driving for them almost a month. Under the companies old hiring policies it wouldn't have been an issue. There was even a guy in my depot hired a few years earlier who actually got his CDL on a company truck. But this company was recently purchased by a very large company and the new owners want a year of experience. So anyway, they played it off like it wasn't a big deal and had me finish the week of training in Florida. A couple of days after I got back home to Raleigh, the corporate office in Florida fired me despite my manager and district manager in NC praising my job performance and doing everything they could to keep me. In the end corporate always wins though.

I'm trying to view it as a blessing. It was a good job with people I enjoyed working with and paid very well. But I would love to drive tractor trailers and go OTR; so getting canned from there has hopefully opened the door to pursing that dream.

That was very wrong of that company to fire you the way they did.Im not going to lie it does happen in this industry.Drivers get a prehired letter and the companies find something out then send them home. Most the time its during orientation. If you don't mind me asking how much more do you weigh since the physical in other words have you gained much since you had your physical last April? You've got plenty of time before you start in December. You're determined you're motivated you have nothing to worry about.Millis probably won't even give your physical a hard look. All they care about is having the long form on file.

Ive actually lost weight since my DOT physical in April. A little over 40 pounds. I hope to be down at least 30 more before going OTR with a trainer in January. My worry is someone at Millis will see the weight on my long form and picture some unhealthy fat guy who can barely move. Make no mistake, im a big guy, but I stay active and im not afraid of some work. The sad part is, Im big now and Ive already lost 130 pounds. I still can't explain why I let myself get that big. A year ago I wouldn't have even considered going OTR because I probably couldn't have climbed in the trailer if need be. My regular doctor who also gave me the DOT physical has been a big supporter. I see him every 3-4 months for a weigh in and blood pressure check. He seems downright amazed someone can be as big as me and not suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes. My last lab results saw an increase in good cholesterol, decrease in bad cholesterol, a total cholesterol well within normal, and a 37 point drop in Triglycerides to the normal range.

Sounds like you're more healthy then guys that doesn't have a weight issue.I'm proud of you for doing something about your weight. You're far from lazy I can tell that. What has past posts on Millis said about drivers weight?Does millis have a sleep abnea testing? If not then you have nothing to worry about.

I had a sleep study a few years ago and have used a cpap ever since. Best thing I ever did for my health besides lose weight. I had no idea how bad I was sleeping and how much it effected my life. I sometimes wonder if I would have ever gotten as heavy as I was had I treated my sleep apnea sooner. My highest weight was before I got treatment for my sleep apnea.

From what I have read, companies don't seem to mind if you use a cpap since it means you are getting proper sleep. Hopefully it wont be an issue with Millis. If anybody reading this thinks it will be, please let me know.

I talked to Rachel in recruiting today. It turns out there is no training class in Eden for December. So its either wait until January or go down to Georgia. Decisions decisions...
