I worked for Jacobson in 2006. They were not too bad to work for, but as much as I hate broker loads they are better than no load at all. Jacobson does not haul broker freight so that is probably why they are starving their drivers right now since most of the freight out their is broker freight. I did get home most weekends.

I drove for Jacobson from 06 to 08 because of their driver retention rate which then was one of the highest in the country.
I later found out it was because of a program called ESOP or Employee Share Of Profit ( I think that was what it was called) but at any rate it was a much better retirement program than a 401k - possible to leave with a million dollars or more in your pocket. This program was since phased out but still Jacobson is a fine company to work for providing you are a good driver. Trust me when I say life with any company is much better if you're not the weak link. Communicate with them often about any issue you're having with freight, short runs etc and you'll find things much easier to tolerate.
When I was there Jacobson started you out with good, low cost medical/dental insurance for your family within the 2nd month of your hire date (about $35 a week)
They actually like to see you when you come to the home terminal and if there are any unresolved issues that your dispatcher can't handle. You can walk into anyone's office and talk - I mean anyone all the way to the CEO and they won't toss you out until the problem is handled.
I quit because I still have a young one at home and she likes having me around so I had to get off the road for a while otherwise I'd still be there :biggrin_25525:

If you still need a answer,I worked for them for about 3 months, they treated me good, good miles but had to quit for I lived in wrong part of country and their freight never would even get me close to house but like most companies it depends on your dispatcher and if they like you.

Well, lets see. I drove for them back in 2005 for aqbout 8 months. they were all right except I had a smart mouth dispatcher. and they were suppose to get you home on the weekend. they wouldnt get you home till sat and then you would be off till mon. I prefer to be home on fri night. but other than that they were ok. I talked to them a couple of months ago and said they werent hiring company drivers but you could drive for a owner operator. good luck

thats what i am doing is driving for an owner operator. not a bad deal either. i figured i can work for him till they either get a co. truck open or i take the plunge and buy one myself. i left after 8 months with them in 07 when they gave me the new dispatcher that did not agree with me about my home time. i leave out this afternoon on greyhound for 24hr ride.

I drove with them in 06-08 for the dollar general account in Ardmore , Ok.
The pay was good and my home time was out standing . I live 60 miles due west of Ardmore so i was home nightly to every other night and off on weekends .
I quit because they were losing the account and they did 3 months after I quit .
I have heard from many including my dispatcher at the time that the OTR drivers were starving and the start off pay sucked ..... most were not making over 1500 miles a week.
I do not know much about them now other to say I would stay away from them with their low start pay and low mileage weeks ..... Does not sound that thrilling to me.

Just received a report that their office in Fort Worth is closed and that only safe haven parking is being done there. Can this be a bad sign for their future?

I am still driving for jacobson with the fleet owner. He is a nice guy to work for, i bring home enough money to pay the bills, & get home when i want to. they do have some broker loads. I have to say they have been pretty nice about me having to take about 8 weeks off due to i broke my ankle even the owner of the truck. They have not sent anyone to pick up the truck or trailer which is very surprising. So if there is any drivers out there looking for a nice guy to work for & decent company call jacobsons recruiting department & ask for gene neilers number. yall be safe out there.

Well, this company doesn't sound too bad. At least, not when these posts were made. The only complaint I read was low miles. That is a big one for a truck driver. How are they now? I've been offered a job there and am wondering if I should accept it.
