I know a bit about this company. Everybody from my truck school said they are a good company. Their recruiter's name is Bill Wall, in their Turlock terminal-- and when I spoke with him over the phone a few weeks ago, he seemed like a reasonable kind of guy.

NRT and Poppy State are sister companies, and they run five states, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Airzona, and I think they also do runs to Utah now (but don't quote me on that)

Probably going to be my 1st choice for employment once I pass my DMV test

Yea, I was told Bill Wall was a nice guy. He kinda turned out to be a turd. I put in an Ap, and I had to chase him down. The ap asked for 3 years work exp but he wanted me to give him 10. So after I had to jump through the hoop to get him more info I had to track him down again. It was on a Thursday and he said he would call me either later that day or by Friday. So on Monday I called him again and he said they were looking at 5 driver aps, but were only going to hire two and he said he would get back to me. He never did, so I did not call anymore and got hired somewhere else. He was very gruff and short on the phone. Like I was bothering him, even though recruiting is his job. He was kinda rude and rubbed me the wrong way. I found out later he was a kiss butt driver they made a recruiter. So, I duno about the company but Bill Wall did not seem like a nice guy. It would be a concern of mine how the company as a whole treats its drivers. Good luck.

I've also had trouble getting a hold of him on the phone. And my emails usually go unanswered. But he got back to me one time. It seems like maybe they're not going to respond unless they're certain they'd hire you?

I know this thread is old but I just wanted to write this anyway. CommanderUsmc I know what you mean. This guy Bill Wall came to the truck school I went to as a recruiter, and yes the way he was talking it sure did sound like he was a kiss-butt driver before. I called and left a msg on his voicemail asking about employment. He called me back promptly in the morning. He told me to put in an application and he'd get back to me. I did and he didn't get back to me for three days. He left a msg on my voicemail asking me to call him back. I did, and for the next two days, no call back. So I stopped trying. I already had a job but wanted something that does the 5 western states. So then he calls me a day later telling me he wants to interview me in two days and he went as far as giving me his personal cell number. I called as soon as business hours hit. No response. Left msg. I called again later in the day, left another message. The third and final time that day I called again, didn't leave a msg. So yeah I'm done with the phone tag. It's not worth chasing a recruiter who acts like he can waste people's time and we're at his mercy for a job. Umm no. So if you go with Northern Refrigerated, hope you get another recruiter other than Bill Wall. Very unprofessional and yes, he is a turd!

Man that's kind of messed up... I could see posting that about a Swift recruiter or some other mega-carrier, but to personally bash somebody at a small company like that is really unprofessional!

If it's not immediately apparent, these recruiters most likely do read these boards. They could put two and two together and tell who you are, if you have posted enough information about yourself on this forum and have applied at their company.

So here's my impression of the guy. I don't think he was a kiss-### driver. I don't get that impression at all. "Kissing ###" is part of any job, and any job has politics. Do you think you're going to get promoted if you don't "kiss ###" at some point? I've only been promoted by showing enthusiasm, dedication to the job, or whatever. I've never been promoted by showing a bad attitude at work. Furthermore, what's the problem in kissing butt to get a better job, more money, better home time, or higher status in a company. That's politics, and every work place has that.

If you actually wanted the job, you could have just showed up at the terminal 2 days later on your interview date, instead of calling. Anyways...
