    # Jonathan - I just got a call back from All American Xpress and am headed down to ATL for an interview tomorrow. I went online and checked their ratings and they are not what you recall. The current rating is 70, not 90. And out of service reports for vehicles and drivers are below national average.
    Would appreciate anyone with recent experience with them piping in - seems they have downsized a little, still run coast to coast, must have cleaned up their drivers as that is the big improvement in their safety scores (vehicle inspections rating actually seem a little higher (worse) than they were in the previous 2 quarters of 2010).
    Would like to hear from someone running with them as the most recent complaints was from a guy in 2009 saying he sat, then was forced to run hard, and wasn't paid his due. Maybe the DOT knuckle down on AAX paid off and they cleaned up their act?

    I posted a more detailed report under "bad companies" but I am actually hopeful things get better and I can edit that.
    Company has exactly what I wanted, long length of haul for solo drivers but misrepresented what the job was when I hired on.
    Their original home terminal is in Calhoun, GA about 55 miles from my front door and they have a second terminal in Lakeland, FL about 3 miles from Publix. They have two big contracts : one with CocaCola running product to the NW and another with Publix returning produce from the NW to Lakeland. I was told as a Chattanooga driver I would have a load relayed to Calhoun by FL drivers and I would run it west. I would then bring produce to Calhoun where a FL driver would relay it to Publix.
    Perfect!
    One thing. They just shuttered the Calhoun terminal and I have to run FL to NW and back and try to get my time at home under load one way or the other. My car is still in Calhoun and i have to find a way (and time) to go get it and figure out what to do with it. The Calhoun manager quit, the safety man quit, the girl who interviewed and hired me quit. Jamal laid off 6 mechanics from Calhoun 3 weeks before Christmas, nice. My second paycheck went missing. Company staff doesn't answer their phones, company phone goes to a mail menu, all staff have company cell phones and most of those let them also go to voice mail. I was told I had a driver manager and the next day that they were not using DMs any longer, the two women who do the load planning look after all 200 drivers (but they dont answer their phones so god help you if you have an issue while on the road). Equipment is old but they seem to do ok with maintenance though they apparently limit themselves to repairs and aren't too concerned with preventative maintenance (I have a slow air leak under the hood, a radiator that dumps a gallon when ever it overheats, and a check engine lite for a faulty temp sensor or engine fan but have been told to not worry about any of it).
    But MAN! It's nice to run 5 days between warehouse visits! I have to stick it out long enough to put some money in the bank and if I dont see improvement by then, I'm afraid I'll have to say goodbye to AAX. I hate to have another short term employment on my record, but if they can't be better about money, management, and time off, I can't see my staying. This is the PERFECT job for a Lakeland/Orlando based driver but with the closing of Calhoun, it just doesn't suit my needs nor do I suit theirs.
    Update - as of this morning, my bank account received a direct deposit in the amount equal to two weeks pay, so whether a holiday glitch or maybe my load completion didn't make the payroll cutoff last week, things are square financially - now if I can only get over the frustration of lack of communication.

    And I will confirm the "serious trucking" comment. Severt drivers are definitely on a mission.

    bbmyls2go, You ever work for Storey Trucking out of Henegar, Al? They run Shaw carpet out of Dalton, GA to Phoenix/LA and produce back.

    Sorry TNPride, didn't see your post.

    thanks CC - I have spoken to them twice but was told each time they weren't hiring. I may call Vicki again at some point and consider a switch if I'm still unhappy with things at AAX

    just learned 3 things -
    they are withholding Ga state income taxes though I am a TN resident;
    the payrate is 25% less than discussed (and advertised clearly on their website);
    they did not inform me, but mandate, per diem salary which is unacceptable.
    As soon as I can pocket enough cash to sit out of work during a transition to another job, I'll be quitting.
